Orifice Motor

View page
US Patent:
54944015, Feb 27, 1996
Filed:
Dec 15, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/356110
Inventors:
Rajan Varadan - Orangevale CA
International Classification:
F01D 118
US Classification:
415 80
Abstract:
An orifice motor which includes a plurality of spaced-apart rotors positioned along a shaft and enclosed within a casing or housing. Each rotor includes at least one jet orifice thorugh which fluid passes and is ejected tangentially to the peripheral surface of the rotor. The apparatus also includes a high pressure fluid inlet at a first end of the shaft, and a plurality of exit ports together with an exit chamber at a second end of the shaft. Bearings and seals are employed to protect frictionally related surfaces. Fluid is injected into one end of the apparatus and travels axially through the apparatus, passing through each of the rotors by way of the orifices. As the fluid exits the orifices, a pinwheel effect is created which causes the rotors to spin, thus causing the attached shaft to spin. As fluid exits each rotor, it is introduced to the next rotor downstream, where it exits in the same way. The fluid pressure drops as it passes each successive rotor due to momentum imparted to the rotors by the fluid.

Pump/Motor Apparatus Using 2-Lobe Stator

View page
US Patent:
60930047, Jul 25, 2000
Filed:
Feb 12, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/022814
Inventors:
Rajan Varadan - Sacramento CA
Richard Bach - Kingsley MI
Assignee:
Zenergy LLC - Kingsley MI
International Classification:
F01C 110
US Classification:
418 48
Abstract:
A pump or motor having a three-lobed rotor capable of being used within a hypocycloidal two-lobed stator that is designed primarily for use with a one-lobed rotor. The three-lobed rotor design allows for interchangeability with the two-lobed stator to provide for varying fluid displacements to meet particular demands. A specific application allows for the combination of both the three-lobed rotor along with a one-lobed rotor within the same two-lobed stator, thereby improving the efficiency of the pump or motor.

Drive Arrangement For Progressing Cavity Pump

View page
US Patent:
55494641, Aug 27, 1996
Filed:
Aug 31, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/521784
Inventors:
Rajan Varadan - Orangevale CA
International Classification:
F04C 2107
US Classification:
418 48
Abstract:
A progressing cavity pump having a rotor with a longitudinal bore and including at least one helix is mounted eccentrically within a stator having at least two helices. In a first embodiment the rotor is driven by an eccentric drive shaft which shares a journal surface with the rotor bore along the entire length of the rotor. In the second and third embodiments, the rotor is driven by a drive shaft concentric with the stator which drives a drive block having a bore that is eccentric relative to the stator. A rotor hub is rotatably mounted within the drive block bore. The drive shaft additionally drives a longitudinal auxiliary shaft within the longitudinal bore of the rotor. The auxiliary shaft is fixedly coupled to a second drive block which drives the rotor head. As external rotational actuation is applied to the drive shaft, the drive block rotates, acting as a crank on the rotor hub to drive the rotor. Simultaneously, the drive shaft actuates the longitudinal auxiliary shaft which drives the second drive block, the second drive block then acting as a crank on the head of the rotor.

Abstract:
A progressing cavity pump having a rotor with a longitudinal bore and including at least one helix is mounted eccentrically within a stator having at least two helices. In a first embodiment the rotor is driven by an eccentric drive shaft which shams a journal surface with the rotor bore along the entire length of the rotor. In the second and third embodiments, the rotor is driven by a drive shaft concentric with the stator which drives a drive block having a bore that is eccentric relative to the stator.
