Distributed Rate Allocation And Collision Detection In Wireless Networks

View page
US Patent:
20130201857, Aug 8, 2013
Filed:
Jul 29, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/813349
Inventors:
Vidur Bhargava - Austin TX, US
Sriram Vishwanath - Austin TX, US
Jubin Jose - Austin TX, US
Assignee:
Board of Regents of the University of Texas System - Austin TX
International Classification:
H04W 72/08
US Classification:
370252, 370329
Abstract:
A hybrid cellular and non-cellular multi-hop communication device, including a hand-held wireless device having one or more antennas, a cellular wireless interface connected to at least some of the one or more antennas, and a non-cellular wireless interface connected to at least some of the one or more antennas. The non-cellular wireless interface may include a rate allocator configured to select a physical-layer rate of transmission of data from the non-cellular wireless interface based on a queue length of data to be transmitted from the hand-held cellular device and a transmitter configured to wirelessly transmit data from the queue and adjust physical-layer transmission parameters based on a physical-layer rate selected by the rate allocator.

US Patent:
20130083722, Apr 4, 2013
Filed:
Jun 3, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/701449
Inventors:
Vidur Bhargava - Austin TX, US
Sriram Vishwanath - Austin TX, US
Jubin Jose - Bridgewater NJ, US
Assignee:
Board of Regents, The University of Texas System - Austin TX
International Classification:
H04W 88/04
US Classification:
370315, 455 111, 455 10
Abstract:
A method, wireless device and computer program product for expanding the coverage of a cellular network. A wireless device (e.g., cellular telephone) is able to communicate with a base station in a cell of the cellular network over a non-cellular interface via another wireless device in the cell through the use of multi-hopping. A wireless device may request permission to communicate with the base station over a non-cellular interface via hopping off another wireless device when its signal strength is below a threshold. Alternatively, a wireless device may receive a request to communicate with the base station over a non-cellular interface via hopping off the wireless device that sent the request when that wireless device has excess capacity in its bandwidth with the base station. By enabling wireless devices to communicate with a base station in such a manner, the effective coverage area of the cellular network is expanded and the effective capacity of the cellular network is improved.

US Patent:
20180262962, Sep 13, 2018
Filed:
May 13, 2018
Appl. No.:
15/978168
Inventors:
- Bellevue WA, US
Vidur Bhargava - Bellevue WA, US
Assignee:
M87, Inc. - Bellevue WA
International Classification:
H04W 36/14
H04W 48/16
H04W 48/10
H04W 36/32
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for efficiently communicating network connectivity information in a communications system are described. Two types of signals with different characteristics, e.g., long range synchronous beacons, e.g., LTE-D beacons, and short range asynchronous beacons, e.g., WiFi beacons, are used in combination to advertise network connectivity information and accelerate the acquisition of a routing path for a communications device to a device serving as a gateway for a infrastructure network. Reception of a first type signal triggers monitoring for a second type signal, and a received second type signal communicates information used to determine a communications path to a gateway device.

US Patent:
20170054488, Feb 23, 2017
Filed:
Aug 31, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/253738
Inventors:
- Austin TX, US
Vidur Bhargava - Austin TX, US
Christine Julien - Austin TX, US
International Classification:
H04B 7/15
H04L 12/801
H04W 28/14
H04W 40/24
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for supporting efficient communications of time varying data are described. A wireless device monitors to detect receipt of a first identifier, e.g., an LTED OTACode, via a first network interface, said first identifier corresponding to first information that is available via the first network, said first information indicating a source of first time varying data and a description of the first time varying data. The wireless device monitors to detect receipt of a second identifier, e.g., a hash value, via a second network interface, e.g., a WIFI, interface. The wireless device determines if the first identifier was received on the first interface and if a second identifier, corresponding to the first identifier, was received on the second interface. The wireless device makes a decision whether or not to retransmit the second identifier. The wireless device retrieves, uses and/or supplies the first time varying data to other devices.

Filed:
Jul 7, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/204861
Inventors:
- Austin TX, US
Vidur Bhargava - Austin TX, US
International Classification:
H04W 76/02
H04W 40/22
H04W 4/06
H04W 72/00
H04W 8/00
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for efficiently establishing communications connections, e.g., for a secondary application, are described. A device to device communications network has established routing paths, e.g., corresponding to a first application. Different segments of the network use different gateways. Individual communications devices within a segment of the network may have incomplete information on the routing within the segment. A wireless communications device advertises the gateway device which it uses for the first application. A first communications device seeking to establish a communications connection with a second communications device for a second application uses obtained gateway information to make transmission and/or routing decisions, e.g., identifying a third communications device which can bridge a routing path gap between two segments of the network.

Inventors:
- Austin TX, US
Vidur Bhargava - Austin TX, US
Christine Julien - Austin TX, US
International Classification:
H04W 36/14

Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for supporting efficient communications of time varying data are described. A wireless device transmits a first identifier, e.g., an LTED OTACode, via a first network interface, said first identifier corresponding to first information that is available via the first network, said first information indicating a source of first time varying data and a description of the first time varying data. The wireless device further transmits a second identifier, e.g., a hash value, via a second network interface, e.g., via a WIFI, BT, or BLE network interface, corresponding to a second network, the second identifier corresponding to the first time varying data. The wireless device receives a request including said second identifier, and in response transmits the first time varying data.
