System For Locating A Machine And/Or A Part In A Coordinate System

View page
US Patent:
20140081428, Mar 20, 2014
Filed:
Sep 18, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/622214
Inventors:
Todd W. Rudberg - Shoreline WA, US
Joshua M. Cemenska - Mukilteo WA, US
International Classification:
G05B 19/02
US Classification:
700 66
Abstract:
The system includes a software program for locating a machine in a fixed reference coordinate (FRC) system for a manufacturing system, such as a fiber placement machine used in the construction of a composite part. The software system also locates a part in the FRC, and further includes locating an optical tool point in space by using laser information from known two positions to determine the position of the optical tool point.

Sequencer System For An Automatic Tape Laying And Projection System

View page
US Patent:
20140081444, Mar 20, 2014
Filed:
Sep 18, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/621930
Inventors:
Todd W. Rudberg - Shoreline WA, US
Joshua M. Cemenska - Mukilteo WA, US
International Classification:
G05B 19/18
US Classification:
700142
Abstract:
An integrated system for building a fiber composite part which includes an automatic fiber placement machine and a laser projector for verification of proper fiber placement. The CNC machine is controlled by a build file, with the laser projector being controlled by a part projection file. A sequencer, responsive to both the build and projection files, automatically controls the sequence of operation of the building of the part and the projection of the boundary information. A display shows the fiber placement information and allows the user to select a particular region of the fiber placement for verification of proper placement.

System And Method For Laying Up Composite Barrel Shaped Structures

View page
US Patent:
20220194024, Jun 23, 2022
Filed:
Oct 28, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/452584
Inventors:
- Chicago IL, US
Todd Rudberg - Shoreline WA, US
Brent L. Thayer - Mukilteo WA, US
Jordan S. Erickson - Federal Way WA, US
Keith Duane Price - St. George UT, US
International Classification:
B29C 70/32
B29C 70/54
Abstract:
A composite barrel is laid up on a rotatable mandrel using laminators that apply composite material on the mandrel. The laminators are arranged on opposite sides of the mandrel and apply composite material to a first region of the mandrel while the mandrel is held stationary in a first rotational position. The mandrel is rotated to a second rotational position where it is held stationary as the laminators apply composite material to a second region of the mandrel to complete the layup. Plies in the first and second regions are spliced together during the layup process.
