Elevator Sensor Array System

View page
US Patent:
20190094358, Mar 28, 2019
Filed:
Sep 25, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/713733
Inventors:
- Farmington CT, US
Tarique Faruki - Florence SC, US
International Classification:
G01S 17/02
B66B 1/34
B66B 5/00
G01N 21/62
G01V 8/20
Abstract:
According to an aspect, a method includes detecting, by a computing system, whether there are any pre-existing objects between a first group of sensors of a sensor array in an elevator shaft. The computing system detects whether there is a foreign object between a second group of sensors of the sensor array in the elevator shaft, where the second group of sensors includes at least one sensor that differs from the first group of sensors. The computing system triggers a modification to a control aspect of an elevator car in the elevator shaft based on detection of the foreign object.

Emergency Elevator Power Management

US Patent:
20180362289, Dec 20, 2018
Filed:
Jun 14, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/622433
Inventors:
- Farmington CT, US
Tarique FARUKI - Florence SC, US
International Classification:
B66B 1/28
B66B 5/02
B66B 1/32
B66B 1/30
Abstract:
An illustrative example embodiment of an elevator system includes: a plurality of elevator cars; a plurality of elevator machines, respectively associated with the elevator cars to selectively cause movement of the associated elevator car, at least some of the elevator machines respectively operating in a first mode including consuming power and in a second mode including generating power; a power source having a power output threshold and a power intake threshold; and at least one controller that is configured to determine when the power source is providing power for the elevator system, and dynamically adjust how the plurality of machines move the elevator cars to maximize a number of the plurality cars being used to move passengers while keeping power consumption by the elevator system below the power output threshold and keeping power generation by the elevator system below the power intake threshold.

Security Enhancement Based On Use Of Icons With Pass Codes

View page
US Patent:
20160188899, Jun 30, 2016
Filed:
Jun 12, 2013
Appl. No.:
14/896559
Inventors:
- Farmington CT, US
Ashley Chapman - Plainville CT, US
Tarique Faruki - Farmington CT, US
International Classification:
G06F 21/62
G06F 17/30
G06F 3/0481
G06F 21/31
G06F 3/0484
Abstract:
Embodiments are directed to receiving, by a computing device comprising a processor, a selection of an icon that corresponds to a request for access to at least one of a resource and an activity associated with a conveyance device, receiving, by the computing device, a pass code, determining, by the computing device, that the pass code corresponds to the icon, and causing, by the computing device, the requested access to be provided based on determining that the pass code corresponds to the icon.

Elevator Passenger Interface Including Images For Requesting Additional Space Allocation

View page
US Patent:
20150068848, Mar 12, 2015
Filed:
Jan 24, 2012
Appl. No.:
14/373699
Inventors:
Jannah A. Stanley - Portland CT, US
Michael P. Flynn - Avon CT, US
Matthew Joyce - Avon CT, US
Vijay Jayachandran - West Hartford CT, US
Tarique Faruki - Avon CT, US
Assignee:
OTIS ELEVATOR COMPANY - Farmington CT
International Classification:
B66B 1/24
G06F 3/0484
G06F 3/0481
US Classification:
187384
Abstract:
An exemplary elevator destination entry system includes a passenger interface device that presents a visual representation of at least one item that will accompany a passenger on an elevator car. The passenger interface allows the passenger to select the visual representation. A controller is configured to receive indications of passenger requests for elevator service and an indication from the passenger interface device regarding a selected visual representation. The controller determines an amount of space within an elevator car required to accommodate the item based on predetermined space information corresponding to the selected visual representation. The controller assigns a car to a passenger request based on a determination that the assigned car will have adequate space to accommodate the passenger and the item.

Elevator Car Assignment Strategy That Limits A Number Of Stops Per Passenger

View page
US Patent:
20140166409, Jun 19, 2014
Filed:
Jul 15, 2011
Appl. No.:
14/232621
Inventors:
Tarique Faruki - Avon CT, US
Jannah A. Stanley - Portland CT, US
Ashley Chapman - Avon CT, US
Assignee:
OTIS ELEVATOR COMPANY - Farmington CT
International Classification:
B66B 1/20
B66B 1/18
US Classification:
187384, 187387
Abstract:
An exemplary method of controlling an elevator system includes determining that a new passenger requests elevator service a departure floor to a destination floor. Any candidate elevator cars are ranked. A number of stops for each assigned passenger for a ranked candidate elevator car is determined if the new passenger were assigned to that car. A determination is made whether any ranked candidate elevator car is a qualified car that can accept the new passenger and limit a number of stops for each passenger assigned to that car to a desired maximum number of stops. The new passenger is assigned to a qualified car that has a most favorable ranking of any qualified cars.
