Abstract:
Catalysts for hydrotreating of petroleum refinery feedstocks are prepared by impregnating an aqueous solution of Group VI metal compound and Group VIII metal compound in solution with HBF. sub. 4 on catalyst support of alumina or alumina with silica. In preferred embodiments, oxides of molybdenum and nickel in solution with HBF. sub. 4, and optionally also with H. sub. 3 PO. sub. 4, are impregnated on alumina and calcined to finish the catalyst. Catalysts so prepared are used in hydrotreating to reduce nitrogen content of oil feedstocks.
