Abstract:
Processes are provided that produce organo-aluminoxane compositions. Said processes comprise: desiccating a first mixture, where said first mixture comprises organo-aluminoxane molecules intermixed with a solvent, to produce a first composition, where said first composition comprises organo-aluminoxane molecules; mixing said first composition with a solvent to produce a second mixture, where said second mixture comprises organo-aluminoxane molecules and said solvent; contacting said second mixture with a insolublization agent to produce said organo-aluminoxane compositions. A polymerization process using a catalyst that comprises an organo-aluminoxane composition is also provided.

Bridged fluorenyl-containing metallocenes of metals of Groups 4-6 and their use in forming homopolymers of alpha olefins or polymers of ethylene and optionally minor amounts of alpha olefins, wherein in each case at least one of the cyclic groups of the bridged ligand is a fluorenyl and the other is selected from indenyl, tetrahydroindenyl, fluorenyl, and in the case of the polymerization of ethylene optionally cyclopentadienyl.

Bridged and unbridged fluorenyl-containing metallocenes of the formula Râ (FlR )(CpR )MQ wherein Fl is a fluorenyl radical, Cp is a cyclopentadienyl, indenyl, tetrahydroindenyl, or fluorenyl radical, each R is an organo radical, Râ is a structural bridge linking (FlR ) and (CpR ), M is a metal selected from the group consisting of IVB, VB, and VIB metals, each Q is selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbyl or hydrocarbyloxy radicals and halogen, x is 1 or 0, k is an integer sufficient to fill out the remaining valences of M, n is in the range of 0 to 7, and m is 0 to 7, further characterized by the fact that if (CpR ) is unsubstituted fluorenyl and metallocene is an unbridged metallocene, then n is 1 to 7 and if Râ is 1,1-dimethylmethylene and (CpR ) is unsubstituted cyclopentadienyl or 3-methylcyclopentadienyl, then n is 1 to 7.

A catalyst system composition comprising a chromium compound supported on a silica-titania support, wherein said catalyst system has been reduced with carbon monoxide, and a cocatalyst selected from the group consisting of i) alkyl lithium compounds, ii) dialkyl aluminum alkoxides in combination with at least one metal alkyl selected from the group consisting of alkyl zinc compounds, alkyl aluminum compounds, alkyl boron compounds, and mixtures thereof and iii) mixtures thereof can be used to polymerize olefins to produce a low density polymer with a decreased melt index and/or high load melt index. This catalyst system also can be used with a Ziegler-Natta catalyst system to polymerize olefins. Polymerization processes using these catalyst system compositions are also provided. Polymers resulting from polymerization processes using the inventive catalyst and cocatalyst systems have a decreased high load melt index, decreased melt index, increased fluff bulk density, and are useful as components to make bi-modal molecular weight resins for film and/or blow molding applications.

Abstract:
A composition is provided comprising a metallocene having the formula of: ##STR1## wherein each Z can be the same or different hydrocarbyl radical selected from the group consisting of cyclopentadienyl, indenyl, tetrahydroindenyl, fluorenyl, and mixtures thereof; each X can be the same or different and is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, R, OR, NR. sub. 2, PR. sub. 2, or OQ, or mixtures thereof wherein the R is a C. sub. 1 -C. sub. 20 hydrocarbyl radical and Q is an inorganic moiety selected from the group consisting of silica, alumina, clay, phosphated alumina, and mixtures thereof; each Y can be the same or different and is an alkyl group, hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, or mixtures thereof; E is selected from C, Sn, Si, Ge, B, Al, N, or P; M is a metal selected from Ti, Zr, Hf, Sc, Y, V, or La; m is a number sufficient to fill out the valences of metal M; and n is 1 or 2. Also provided is a process for preparing the metallocene by contacting a hydrocarbon having an acidic, replaceable hydrogen with an organolithium and an organohalosilane to prepare a ligand which is then contacted with an organo alkali metal compound to form a bridged ligand followed by contacting the bridged ligand with an organolithium and a metal halide. The composition is useful for olefin polymerization, hydrogenation, alkene epoxidation, alkene isomerization, and ketone reduction.
