Robert D. Gardos - New York NY, US
Adam D. Burstein - Brooklyn NY, US
Shamoun Murtza - Hackensack NJ, US
Chia Hsian Yeh - Flushing NY, US
Rong Zheng - Brooklyn NY, US
Assignee:
Register Com, Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
G06F011/00
US Classification:
709225, 709227, 709224, 713201
Abstract:
A program running on a web server allows automated domain name registration, modification and management through an interface running on a client machine. The program redefines the concept of the Domain Name System zones by breaking them down into discrete records that can be managed in a database. The structuring of domain records in such a way allows global modifications to a given record type for all domains owned by a given domain name Registrant. Further, when run on the web server of an accredited registrar, the program enables domain name Registrants an easy and efficient way to reliably monitor and manage their domain name property.

Method And Apparatus Providing Distributed Domain Management Capabilities

View page
US Patent:
7076541, Jul 11, 2006
Filed:
Jun 1, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/871886
Inventors:
Adam D. Burstein - Brooklyn NY, US
Robert D. Gardos - New York NY, US
Shamoun Murtza - Hackensack NJ, US
Rong Zheng - Brooklyn NY, US
Assignee:
Register.com, Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
G06F 15/173
US Classification:
709223, 709203, 709217, 709245, 709246, 707 3
Abstract:
A system and method facilitates communication of domain management functions and information between a front-end server, utilized for example by an unaccredited registrar or other type of partner site, and a back-end server. Typically the back-end server has direct access to the shared registry system (SRS) and is of the type such as might be found within an accredited registrar. Communication between the front-end server and the back-end server is through a lightweight protocol. The front-end server generates a graphical user interface on an operator's terminal. An operator enters information to the front-end server through the graphical user interface and generates a message from the operator terminal to the front-end server. The front-end server parses the message, extracts information appropriate to the requested function, and generates a compact command message to send to the back-end server. Preferably, the back-end server receives the command through a command-line or similar interpreter and performs a function or extracts information as requested by the front-end server.

Domain Manager For Plural Domains And Method Of Use

View page
US Patent:
7251826, Jul 31, 2007
Filed:
Jun 5, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/587403
Inventors:
Robert D. Gardos - New York NY, US
Adam D. Burstein - Brooklyn NY, US
Shamoun Murtza - Hackensack NJ, US
Anupama Vajjalla - Iselin NJ, US
Assignee:
Register.Com, Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
H04L 9/32
US Classification:
726 6, 726 3, 709225, 715700
Abstract:
A system and method that facilitates entities acting as agents to manage plural domains for plural registrants includes a domain manager capable of direct attachment to the shared registry system. The domain manager resides on a server of an accredited registrar or on a server of a partner website that has made a server of an accredited registrar authoritative for at least plural domain names. A variety of DNS or zone file information can be altered using simple graphical user interfaces to enter change information and pass that change information to the domain manager server. The domain manager server passes the change information to the DNS servers either directly through the SRS or through an accredited server that passes the change information through the SRS and to the root servers. Most preferably, the domain manager has substantially direct access to the shared registry system, which asynchronously updates the DNS servers. The domain manager may also provide a variety of utilities that allow an operator to perform diagnostics on the domain, its name and its registration.

Method And Apparatus For Analyzing Domain Name Registrations

View page
US Patent:
6745248, Jun 1, 2004
Filed:
Aug 2, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/631171
Inventors:
Robert D. Gardos - New York NY
Adam D. Burstein - Brooklyn NY
Jonathan Rothman - New York NY
Mark Calandra - Hoboken NJ
Assignee:
Register.com, Inc. - New York NY
International Classification:
G06F 1516
US Classification:
709245, 709217, 709219, 709226, 709228, 707 10, 707201
Abstract:
Downloading an authoritative zone file and performing searches within the zone file can identify all of the domain names registered to an entity. A method of identifying all of the domain names registered to an entity may including downloading a root zone file from a registry or from a root server and storing the root zone file as a text file with alphanumeric character strings associating each domain name with a registrar and at least one domain name server. A search characteristic is established corresponding to a character string comprising a significant part of one of the entitys domain names. A string search is performed in the download root zone file for the search characteristic to identify one or more domain names matching the search characteristic, as well as a registrar corresponding to the matching domain name and at least one domain name server associated with the matching domain name in the downloaded root zone file. Each matching domain name is stored in a data file, so that the data file associates each extracted domain name with the corresponding registrar and the at least one domain name server. The method continues by repeating, at least once, the successive processes of establishing a second search characteristic, extracting from the registry at least one additional domain name on the basis of the second search characteristic and storing each additional matching domain name in the data file.
