Item Monitoring System And Methods

View page
US Patent:
7584016, Sep 1, 2009
Filed:
Sep 30, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/956859
Inventors:
Frederick Michael Weaver - Huntersville NC, US
Assignee:
Intrinsic Marks International LLC - Huntersville NC
International Classification:
G07F 7/00
US Classification:
700213
Abstract:
An item monitoring system is provided which is operative at points of storage automatically to sense the presence, number of item(s) stored and relative location of items and to generate near real-time item and location data from storage locations so that time-related changes can be compared to detect item additions and subtractions, and to recognize and report events such as shrink/theft, low inventory conditions and misplaced items. Embodiments incorporate a surface sensing system comprised of one or more contiguous item sensor strips that measure the relative pressure of items in contact with a surface or a hanger support using pressure sensitive analog type conductive material. Item information can be collected from multiple hangers and/or storage surfaces and relayed to databases and application systems for varied uses. The system and method disclosed are cost effective and widely applicable to many categories of inventory application providing real-time updates without item packaging changes.

Transaction Originating Proximate Position Unattended Tracking Of Asset Movements With Or Without Wireless Communications Coverage

US Patent:
20090115609, May 7, 2009
Filed:
Jul 28, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/220766
Inventors:
Frederick Michael Weaver - Huntersville NC, US
International Classification:
G08B 13/14
US Classification:
3405721
Abstract:
An asset in a group is automatically tracked wherein each asset is tagged, and at least one transport means are associated with at least one Proximate GPS (PGPS) location devices each equipped with a sensor which is receptive to the presence of a known asset. The sensor is able to detect the type of tag(s) associated with assets and associated with the transport means. The transport means transporting a PGPS device during the course of it activities passes by, associates with and/or may relocate a known tagged asset, the PGPS automatically detects the asset tag and stores the first sensed GPS location, asset tag ID, first time in a newly created PGPS record. When the transport means moves away from the asset by greater than a proximate distance set for the PGPS device reader the asset tag no longer is detected and the PGPS device recognizing such creates then adds to an asset transaction history log the previously stored last reading GPS location associated with the asset and last time of reading with associated details. The next time the PGPS is in communication with the PGPS host system the PGPS transaction history log of one or more transactions is transmitted to the host system providing the most recent asset location, associated transaction details and optionally specific relocation location path history for each asset in the transaction history log. Optionally the current location of the transport means can be mapped on the PGPS device in real-time together with the start and end locations of the asset, movement path and other associated information stored in the PGPS data base accessible independent of the host system availability.

Item Tracking In Storage Drawers

View page
US Patent:
20110025503, Feb 3, 2011
Filed:
Jul 28, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/462025
Inventors:
Frederick Michael Weaver - Huntersville NC, US
International Classification:
G08B 13/14
US Classification:
3405721
Abstract:
An item monitoring system for tracking and reporting absence of items such as tools from assigned storage locations. Non-contact sensors are used to capture a mosaic of sensed areas that are processed and compared to previous sensed areas identifying change in the presence or absence of items. When a change is detected the item inventory for the storage location is changed to reflect latest status of present or absent. Scaled to a plurality of storage drawers the item monitoring system provides automatic item inventory status for large storage cabinets which may be linked to a central processing system or queried by hand held terminal.

James A. Trautwein - Charlotte NC
Assignee:
Hand Held Products, Inc. - Charlotte NC
International Classification:
G06K 710
US Classification:
235472
Abstract:
A portable item tracking unit includes a bar code reader for capturing a bar code related to an item, a microphone for capturing an audio identification from a recipient of an item, and a memory. The memory associatively electronically stores a digital signal related to the audio identification along with a digital representation of bar code data to provide audio proof of delivery of the item. A display and a speaker may respectively display the stored bar code related to the item and audibly broadcast the electronically stored audio identification for the item. A user input is preferably included for verifying that the input of the bar code and the audio identification is satisfactory. A transferring circuit transfers the electronically stored bar code and the electronically stored audio identification to a host computer. The host computer includes its own memory for associatively storing a plurality of digital identification indicia having a respective plurality of digital audio identifications for a corresponding plurality of items.
