Lateral Movement Router Guide

View page
US Patent:
60272899, Feb 22, 2000
Filed:
Oct 31, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/961481
Inventors:
Ransom Posh - Livonia MI
International Classification:
B23C 120
B27C 510
US Classification:
409180
Abstract:
A router guide attachment adapted for mounting on the underside of both specialized and standard router base plates accommodates workpieces having both straight and curved edges. In one disclosed embodiment, one or more rigid members includes a slotted aperture, with one or more mounting fasteners being used to adjustably secure the guide in position at a desired lateral depth by inserting each mounting fastener through at least one of the slotted apertures and into one of the base plate holes. One or more of the workpiece-contacting surfaces may further include a wheel rotatably mounted to the rigid member, facilitating rolling engagement against the workpiece. In an alternative embodiment, a plurality of physically separated rigid members are provided, each having a slotted aperture and one or more workpiece-contacting surfaces.

Full-Size Router Tilt Base

US Patent:
57723680, Jun 30, 1998
Filed:
Apr 19, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/425184
Inventors:
Ransom D. Posh - Livonia MI
International Classification:
B23C 312
B27C 510
US Classification:
409182
Abstract:
A universal tilt base accommodates general-purpose router motor housings with diameters of 3-1/2 inches and larger. The motor housing is received by a collar tiltingly attached to a table base with an aperture, so that when a cutting bit attached to the router motor, the bit protrudes through the aperture to effect a workpiece, with means to independently adjust both the depth and tilt angle of the cutting bit. In the preferred embodiment, the collar is configured to accommodate router motor housings which either slide without rotation to adjust cutting depth and those which may be rotated during depth adjustment. To accommodate at least two of the types which do not rotate during depth adjustment, the collar is configured to receive motor housings having an at least one outward protrusion. A plurality of grooves, formed lengthwise and spaced apart on the inside cylindrical wall of the collar, may further be provided to accommodate motor housings having a plurality of spaced apart outward protrusions which slidably engage with the grooves. Means are also provided to compress a separation in the collar to secure the motor housing in position with a cutting bit attached thereto so as to bring about a desired cutting depth in the workpiece.
