Non-Invasive Method And Apparatus To Locate Incision Site For Spinal Surgery

View page
US Patent:
20090304143, Dec 10, 2009
Filed:
Jun 20, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/143683
Inventors:
Peyman Pakzaban - Houston TX, US
International Classification:
A61B 6/00
US Classification:
378 11
Abstract:
A non-invasive means and method locates a target spinal segment on a patient prior to surgery. An apparatus comprises a frame; a plurality of laser diodes projecting planar beams and mounted on the perimeter of the frame; a radio-opaque cable attached to the frame at the location of a laser diode; optionally, a weight is attached to the cable; optionally a rod extends from the frame perimeter; and optionally a bombsight is included within the frame marked with crosshairs. The method comprises the steps of marking a patient's skin; placing the frame on the patient; turning on the laser diodes; rotating the frame until the until a line of visible light is perpendicular to the patient's spine; aligning the cable with the planar laser beam; providing an X-ray source; aligning the X-ray source with the planar laser beam and obtaining an X-ray.

US Patent:
20130245633, Sep 19, 2013
Filed:
Mar 19, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/423673
Inventors:
Andrew Dauster - Breinigsville PA, US
Anthony R. Maslowski - Pennsburg PA, US
Peyman Pakzaban - Pasadena TX, US
Scott Webb - Clearwater FL, US
Assignee:
Aesculap Implant Systems, LLC - Center Valley PA
International Classification:
A61B 17/88
US Classification:
606104, 606279
Abstract:
Apparatuses and methods for inserting elongated fixation elements into screw implants include one or components for visualizing the insertion process from a unique vantage point. One apparatus features a steering apparatus for adjusting the position of a receiver element on a screw implant, so that an elongated fixation element, such as a rod, can be inserted through a transverse passage in the receiver element. The steering apparatus may include an extension tube and a steering control member coupled to the extension tube. The extension tube may be configured for coupling to the receiver element, and the steering control member may be configured for coupling to the extension tube. The steering control member may include an opening for receiving an endoscope. The endoscope may be used to visually monitor the elongated fixation element as it is inserted into the transverse passage of the receiver element.

Rod Insertion Instrument

View page
US Patent:
20150018892, Jan 15, 2015
Filed:
Jul 9, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/326769
Inventors:
- Tuttlingen, DE
Peyman Pakzaban - Houston TX, US
International Classification:
A61B 17/70
US Classification:
606 86 A
Abstract:
Described is a rod insertion instrument for the insertion of a fixation rod in the tulips of adjacent pedicle screws in the context of a dorsal spinal column stabilization. It has a grip portion, a tube section adjoining it and a gripping head carried by the tube section, in which gripping head the fixation rod is rotationally fixedly and angularly stably receivable with its proximal end. In order to minimize accidental tissue compression during the fixing of the fixation rod into the pedicle screws, the gripping head is attached to the tube section exclusively via a lockable joint with which there is enabled an unconstrained pivoting movement of the tube section toward the fixation rod during the process of fixing the fixation rod to the pedicle screw.
