Pseudo-Randomized Infrared Blurring Array

View page
US Patent:
6469304, Oct 22, 2002
Filed:
Dec 28, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/752493
Inventors:
Anthony Victor Hewitt - Tucson AZ
Nicholas Bert Saccketti - Tucson AZ
Assignee:
Raytheon Company - Lexington MA
International Classification:
G02B 100
US Classification:
250347, 250332
Abstract:
An infrared blurring array is formed of a substrate having thereon a surface array of blurlets whose foci vary in distance from a nominal focal surface location, and/or whose optical phases at the nominal focal surface location vary, in a pseudorandom but deterministic manner. The substrate may be made of a material transmissive to a waveband of incident infrared energy, and the blurlets are refractive lenslets in the substrate, or the blurlets may be mirrorlets in a reflective substrate. The blurlets are surfaces each defined by a curvature and an axial offset from a nominal focal surface location. At least one, and preferably both, of the curvature and the axial offset of each blurlet is a value that is randomly selected from a set of values defined by a respective distribution, preferably a truncated distribution.

H01Q 1/00
US Classification:
244 316, 244 31, 244 315, 244 319, 343872
Abstract:
Embodiments of a guided munition are provided, as are embodiments of a method for equipping a guided munition with a self-deploying dome cover. In one embodiment, the guided munition includes a munition body, a seeker dome coupled to the munition body, and a self-deploying dome cover disposed over the seeker dome. The self-deploying dome cover is configured to deploy and expose the seeker dome during munition flight in response to aerodynamic forces acting on the self-deploying dome cover.

Stray Light Baffle For A Seeker Or Other Sensor System And A Method For Making The Same

View page
US Patent:
8642965, Feb 4, 2014
Filed:
May 27, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/118224
Inventors:
Christopher L. Hernandez - Corona De Tucson AZ, US
Nicholas B. Saccketti - Tucson AZ, US
Jason R. Petty - Sahuarita AZ, US
Assignee:
Raytheon Company - Waltham MA
International Classification:
G02B 5/00
G01J 5/02
US Classification:
25033901, 359604
Abstract:
A stray light baffle for a seeker or other sensor system and a method for making the same are provided. The seeker, for example, may include a first receiver configured to receive an infrared signal, a second receiver configured to receive a radio frequency signal, a dichroic mirror configured to reflect the infrared signal toward the first receiver and to transmit the radio frequency signal toward the second receiver, and a stray light baffle having a coarse surface comprising a plurality of peaks and a plurality of valleys, wherein an average height of the plurality of peaks is greater than or equal to an average width of the plurality of valleys.

Blur Film Assembly For Infrared Optical Applications

View page
US Patent:
58673075, Feb 2, 1999
Filed:
Nov 13, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/748586
Inventors:
James R. Myers - Tucson AZ
David R. Smith - Tucson AZ
Daniel W. Brunton - Tucson AZ
Stephen M. Jensen - Tucson AZ
Nicholas B. Saccketti - Tucson AZ
Scott W. Sparrold - Tucson AZ
Lawrence A. Westhoven - Tucson AZ
Assignee:
Raytheon Company - El Segundo CA
International Classification:
G02B 100
US Classification:
359350
Abstract:
A blur film is made of a polymeric film material transmissive to infrared energy of a selected waveband, which is affixed to a surface of a substrate transmissive to energy of the same selected infrared waveband. The blur film has a texture or a plurality of lenslets thereon, where the surface of each lenslet is a surface of revolution. In a spatial-filter wheel application, the blur film and substrate are affixed to a support, which in turn is rotatably mounted on a drive. The support is structured such that a portion of its circumference is covered by the blur film and a portion of its circumference is not covered by the blur film. The spatial-filter wheel is rotated in front of a detector to produce alternating blurred and direct images on the detector.

US Patent:
51976919, Mar 30, 1993
Filed:
Sep 16, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/532885
Inventors:
Max Amon - Maitland FL
Nicholas B. Saccketti - Tucson AZ
Assignee:
Martin Marietta Corporation - Bethesda MD
International Classification:
F41G 724
F41G 306
G01B 1126
US Classification:
244 313
Abstract:
An optical arrangement for use in boresighting a plurality of optical paths utilized in a missile beam guidance system, to the target trackers used therewith. A boresight module optical bed supports a plurality of retro-reflective optical assemblies in a closely spaced array, and nearby is a rotational optical assembly in which is mounted an integrated laser system for providing beam guidance to a missile. The rotational optical assembly also contains a plurality of target trackers, and in a first operational mode, the laser of the rotational assembly is successively utilized in conjunction with the retro-reflective optical assemblies in order to accurately and conveniently boresight the trackers. Thereafter, the trackers are used in the acquisition and tracking of a target, and the laser is utilized for guiding the missile to intercept the target.
