US Patent:
58562800, Jan 5, 1999
Filed:
Feb 4, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/794958
Inventors:
Jeenok T. Kim - Holmdel NJ
Patrick Edward Godici - Millington NJ
Paul Joseph Berlowitz - East Windsor NJ
Morton Beltzer - Westfield NJ
Assignee:
Exxon Research and Engineering Company - Florham Park NJ
International Classification:
C10M13502
C10M13506
US Classification:
508509
Abstract:
The present invention resides in a turbo oil composition exhibiting enhanced antioxidancy and resistance to deposit formation, and to a method for achieving that result in turbo oils. The gas turbine lubricating oil of the present invention comprises a major proportion of synthetic polyol ester based base stock including diesters and polyol esters, preferably polyol ester based base stock and a minor proportion of an antioxidant/deposit control additive, specifically a sulfur-containing carboxylic acid (SCCA) derivative. Other conventional additives such as extreme pressure, pour point reduction, oxidative stability, anti-foaming, hydrolytic stability, improved viscosity index performance, anti-wear, and corrosion inhibitor additives and others may also be employed. The use of SCCA derivative produces a turbo oil exhibiting markedly superior oxidation stability and deposit control performance compared to that exhibited by turbo oil without the SCCA derivative.

Enhancing Antiwear And Friction Reducing Capability Of Certain Molybdenum (V) Sulfide Compounds

View page
US Patent:
49921860, Feb 12, 1991
Filed:
Sep 7, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/404144
Inventors:
Jacob J. Habeeb - Westfield NJ
Morton Beltzer - Westfield NJ
Assignee:
Exxon Research and Engineering Company - Florham Park NY
International Classification:
C10M13338
C10M13518
US Classification:
252 475
Abstract:
It now has been discovered that lubricating compositions containing (disulfido) tris (N, N-substituted dithiocarbamato) Mo(V) compounds can be enhanced by the inclusion in the composition certain polydentate ligands. Thus, the present invention comprises a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity and a minor, but effective, amount of an antiwear and friction reducing additive consisting essentially of (disulfido) tris (N, N-substituted dithiocarbamato) molybdenum (V) compounds and polydentate ligands and mixtures thereof.

High Load-Carrying Turbo Oils Containing Amine Phosphate And Sulfurized Fatty Acid

View page
US Patent:
57504784, May 12, 1998
Filed:
Feb 28, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/808101
Inventors:
Jeenok T. Kim - Holmdel NJ
Paul Joseph Berlowitz - East Windsor NJ
Manuel A. Francisco - Washington NJ
Morton Beltzer - Westfield NJ
Assignee:
Exxon Research and Engineering Company - Florham Park NJ
International Classification:
C10M14106
C10M14108
US Classification:
508331
Abstract:
This invention relates to synthetic based turbo oils, preferably polyol ester-based turbo oils which exhibit exceptional load-carrying capacity by use of a synergistic combination of sulfur (S)-based and phosphorous (P)-based load additives. The S-containing additive of the present invention is sulfurized fatty acid (SFA), preferably the sulfurized oleic acid (SOA) and the P-containing additive is one or more amine phosphate(s). The turbo oil composition consisting of the dual P/S additives of the present invention achieves an excellent load-carrying capacity, which is better than or equivalent to that obtained when each additive was used alone at a treat rate higher than the total additive combination treat rate, and this lower additive concentration requirement allows the turbo oil composition to meet or exceed U. S. Navy MIL-L-23699 requirements including Oxidation and Corrosion Stability and Si seal compatibility.

Particulate Sampling System

View page
US Patent:
39863867, Oct 19, 1976
Filed:
Apr 12, 1974
Appl. No.:
5/460291
Inventors:
Morton Beltzer - Westfield NJ
William L. Petersen - Dunellen NJ
Oliver G. Lewis - Westfield NJ
George S. Musser - Warren NJ
Assignee:
Exxon Research and Engineering Company - Linden NJ
International Classification:
G01N 122
US Classification:
73 28
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for measuring particulates contained in the exhaust gases from internal combustion engines which dilutes the exhaust gases with prefiltered and precooled air to produce a constant volume mixture which may be sampled for exhaust gas emissions as well as for particulates. After mixing of the exhaust gases and the pretreated air, sampling of the mixture by isokinetic probes produces a uniform sample of particulate matter which is collected on temperature controlled filters for analysis.
