In one embodiment, the hybrid catalyst system includes a support mixture and a catalyst material supported on the support mixture, wherein the support mixture includes a first support material having a first average surface area and a second support material having a second average surface area different from the first average surface area, the first and second support materials collectively defining regions of differential hydrophobicity. In certain instances, the hybrid catalyst system can be configured as a catalyst layer to be disposed next to a proton exchange membrane of a fuel cell.

Vehicle High Voltage Battery Cell Assembly

View page
US Patent:
20190221786, Jul 18, 2019
Filed:
Jan 17, 2018
Appl. No.:
15/873028
Inventors:
- Dearborn MI, US
Andrew Robert Drews - Ann Arbor MI, US
Mohan Karulkar - Dearborn MI, US
Assignee:
Ford Global Technologies, LLC - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
H01M 2/02
H01M 2/10
Abstract:
A traction battery cell assembly including a battery cell and a cell case is provided. The cell case defines a cavity sized for receiving the battery cell and includes an inner wall, an outer wall, and a plurality of support chambers disposed between the inner wall and the outer wall. Each of the support chambers defines a polygon having multiple sides. The sides are arranged with one another to define an agent cavity to house neutralizing agent. The plurality of support chambers is arranged with the inner wall and the outer wall such that an impact to one of the walls causes a puncture to one of the sides of the support chambers releasing the neutralizing agent. Each of the support chambers may include five or more sides and adjacent sides may define an angle therebetween greater than ninety degrees.
