Methods For Imaging And Processing Negative-Working Imageable Elements

View page
US Patent:
7763413, Jul 27, 2010
Filed:
Oct 16, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/872772
Inventors:
Kevin B. Ray - Fort Collins CO, US
Ting Tao - Fort Collins CO, US
Gary R. Miller - Fort Collins CO, US
Eric E. Clark - Loveland CO, US
Melanie Roth - Loveland CO, US
Assignee:
Eastman Kodak Company - Rochester NY
International Classification:
G03C 1/805
G03F 7/00
G03F 7/26
US Classification:
430302, 4302811, 4302861, 430300, 101453, 1014631
Abstract:
An imaged and developed element, such as a lithographic printing plate, is provided by infrared radiation imaging of a negative-working imagable element having an outermost imagable layer that includes a free radically polymerizable component, a free radical initiator composition comprising a diaryliodonium borate, and an infrared radiation absorbing compound. The imagable layer also includes a polymeric binder that is represented by the following Structure (I):-(A)-(A′)-  (I)wherein A represents recurring units comprising a pendant reactive vinyl group, A′ represents recurring units other than those represented by A, w is from about 1 to about 70 mol %, and w′ is from about 30 to about 99 mol %. The imagewise exposed element is developed with a gum to remove only the non-exposed regions. The gum has a pH greater than 7 and up to about 11 and at least 1 weight % of an anionic surfactant.

Use Of Highly Alkaline Developer Regenerator Composition

View page
US Patent:
7883833, Feb 8, 2011
Filed:
Jun 20, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/765490
Inventors:
Gary R. Miller - Fort Collins CO, US
Melanie Roth - Loveland CO, US
Eric E. Clark - Loveland CO, US
Assignee:
Eastman Kodak Company - Rochester NY
International Classification:
G03F 7/00
G03F 7/26
US Classification:
430302, 1014631, 430434
Abstract:
A method for providing a lithographic printing plate includes developing an exposed imageable element with an alkali silicate-containing developer composition having a pH of at least 12. The developer composition is regenerated by adding to it an alkali silicate-containing regenerator composition having a pH of at least 12. Conductivity of both the developer and regenerator compositions is suppressed from the presence of one or more conductivity reducing agents (such as glycerin). This conductivity suppression in the developer composition is greater than the suppression of the conductivity of the regenerator composition.

Developer Regenerators

US Patent:
20070172776, Jul 26, 2007
Filed:
Mar 27, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/623334
Inventors:
Gary Miller - Fort Collins CO, US
Kevin Wieland - Greeley CO, US
Melanie Roth - Loveland CO, US
International Classification:
G03C 5/00
US Classification:
430331000
Abstract:
The present invention provides an aqueous regenerator for addition to an aqueous developer that contains an organic solvent, a dispersing agent and a weak base, and has a pH of between about 8 and less than about 13. The aqueous regenerator includes an organic solvent, dispersing agent, and an effective amount of a strong base such that the regenerator has a greater pH than the developer into which the regenerator is to be added.

Highly Alkaline Developer Composition And Methods Of Use

View page
US Patent:
20080299491, Dec 4, 2008
Filed:
May 31, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/755977
Inventors:
Gary R. Miller - Fort Collins CO, US
Melanie Roth - Loveland CO, US
Eric E. Clark - Loveland CO, US
International Classification:
G03F 7/32
G03F 7/20
US Classification:
430300, 430331
Abstract:
A highly alkaline developer composition includes an alkali silicate, an alkyl sulfate, and a water-soluble or water-dispersible polyhydroxy compound such as glycerin. The developer composition is useful for processing imaged elements to produce lithographic printing plates with reduced etching of the aluminum substrates that have been coated with hydrophilic polymers such as poly(vinyl phosphonic acid) and with minimal sludging in the developer tank.

US Patent:
20100216067, Aug 26, 2010
Filed:
Feb 20, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/389461
Inventors:
Gary R. Miller - Fort Collins CO, US
Melanie A. Roth - Loveland CO, US
Heidi M. Munnelly - Windsor CO, US
Anthony P. Kitson - Greeley CO, US
Scott A. Beckley - Windsor CO, US
John Kalamen - Loveland CO, US

International Classification:
G03G 9/12
G03F 7/20
US Classification:
4301084, 4301081, 430302
Abstract:
A concentrated developer can be prepared with less than 60 weight % water and still remain in a single phase with little or no haze or precipitation. This developer concentrate also includes a water-soluble or water-miscible organic solvent, one or more alkyl ether carboxylic acid, coconut oil alkanolamine, coconut fatty alcohol polyglycol ether, β-naphtholethoxylate, and block propylene oxide-ethylene oxide in an amount of at least 0.1 and up to 50 weight % solids, and optionally an alkyl naphthalene sulfonate in an amount of up to 40 weight % solids. The developer concentrate can be diluted up to 80:1 or greater with water and used to process imaged lithographic printing plate precursors.
