Pressure Relief Valve For A Vehicle Body

View page
US Patent:
8616944, Dec 31, 2013
Filed:
Sep 4, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/554098
Inventors:
Kimberly A. Chambo - Livonia MI, US
Marc J. Tahnoose - West Bloomfield MI, US
Assignee:
GM Global Technology Operations LLC - Detroit MI
International Classification:
B60H 1/24
US Classification:
454162, 454164, 454259
Abstract:
A pressure relief valve for relieving air pressure from an automotive vehicle interior. The pressure relief valve mounts on a valve mounting location that surrounds a body opening and includes flexible interleaved flaps and a securing mechanism. The flaps cover the body opening, with each of the flaps being generally triangular in shape and having an outer end adjacent to the valve mounting location and a pair of sides extending from the outer end inward to an inner corner, with the inner corners meeting to form a peak. The interleaved flaps form a generally pyramidal-shape that angles away from the automotive vehicle interior as the interleaved flaps extend inward from the outer ends toward the peak. The securing mechanism is secured to the radially outer ends of the flaps and to the valve mounting location.

Test Procedure For Determining Steering Rack Rattle

US Patent:
20090204343, Aug 13, 2009
Filed:
Feb 12, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/029482
Inventors:
Jose M. Lopez - Brighton MI, US
David C. Pomerville - Brighton MI, US
Scott R. Kloess - Rochester Hills MI, US
Robert S. Brines - White Lake MI, US
Marc J. Tahnoose - West Bloomfield MI, US
Darrin S. Mallard - Oxford MI, US
Assignee:
GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS, INC. - Detroit MI
International Classification:
G06F 17/18
G01H 17/00
US Classification:
702 33, 702179
Abstract:
A method of determining steering rack rattle propensity of a rack and pinion steering assembly may comprise: simultaneously recording audio, and measuring acceleration of a rack, and right and left side tie-rod end loads; identifying rack rattle events from the audio recording; determining common characteristics of the measured rack acceleration and tie-rod end loads during the identified rack rattle events; creating a rack rattle index level; applying a predetermined force profile to a test rack and pinion steering assembly; measuring a test acceleration on the test rack and pinion steering assembly; calculating a test RMS level in a test frequency range using a test time constant; determining a rack rattle index value from the calculated test RMS level; and comparing the rack rattle index value to the rack rattle index level.

Elastically Deformable Alignment Fastener And System

View page
US Patent:
20150063943, Mar 5, 2015
Filed:
Aug 28, 2013
Appl. No.:
14/012205
Inventors:
- Detroit MI, US
Marc J. Tahnoose - West Bloomfield MI, US
Michael E. McGuire - Milford MI, US
Jennifer P. Lawall - Waterford MI, US
Assignee:
GM GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS LLC - Detroit MI
International Classification:
F16B 39/284
US Classification:
411 33
Abstract:
An elastically deformable alignment fastener has the form of a unitary object having a head portion and an integrally formed body portion. The body portion has an elastically deformable lobular hollow tube having a proximal end proximate the head portion and a distal end axially displaced from the head portion. The lobular hollow tube has an outer surface having one or more retention features oriented to provide a plurality of radially extending engagement surfaces along a length of the hollow tube. The head portion has a flange that circumscribes the proximal end of the lobular hollow tube. Portions of the elastically deformable lobular hollow tube when inserted into circular apertures of first and second components elastically deform to an elastically averaged final configuration that aligns the first and second components in four planar orthogonal directions.
