Hewlett-Packard Company - Fort Collins CO
International Classification:
G06K 710
US Classification:
23546225, 23546201
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for retrieving data cartridge information associated with a data cartridge while the data cartridge is external to a media storage system. An identification device containing the data cartridge information may be operatively associated with the data cartridge. A reader may be operatively associated with a media storage system in which the data cartridge is to be used. The reader is operable to read the data cartridge information contained on the identification device when the data cartridge is external to the media storage system.

Apparatus And Method For Retrieving Data Related To A Data Cartridge In A Media Storage System

View page
US Patent:
6663003, Dec 16, 2003
Filed:
Feb 22, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/790754
Inventors:
Kristianne E Johnson - Fort Collins CO
Kelly J Reasoner - Ft Collins CO
Paul C Coffin - Ft Collins CO
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06F 1760
US Classification:
235385, 235375
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for retrieving data related to a data cartridge contained in a media storage system. One or more data retrieval devices are attached to the cartridge access device. A transponder is attached to the data cartridge for storing the related data, and at least one reader attached to a cartridge access device of the media storage system is positionable adjacent the data cartridge for reading the related data from the transponder. A scanner adapted to scan bar code indicia on the data cartridges may also be attached to the cartridge access device at the opposite end from the reader.

Dual Bar Code Reading System For A Data Storage System

View page
US Patent:
6758400, Jul 6, 2004
Filed:
Nov 20, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/716878
Inventors:
Kelly J Reasoner - Ft Collins CO
Kristianne E Johnson - Fort Collins CO
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. - Palo Alto CA
International Classification:
G06K 710
US Classification:
23546201, 23546208, 23546212, 23546216, 2354622
Abstract:
A bar code reading system comprises a first bar code label and a second bar code label. The first bar code label is positioned on an object at a first location and in a first orientation. The second bar code label is positioned on the object at a second location and in a second orientation. The first and second bar code labels each have indicia thereon representative of a label data set. Bar code reading apparatus positionable next to the object has a limited field of view such that the bar code reading apparatus reads only first and second portions of the first and second bar code labels. The bar code reading apparatus produces first and second data sets representative of the first and second portions. A data processing system operatively associated with the bar code reading apparatus combines the first and second data sets to produce a combined data set representative of the label data set.

Media Storage System Using A Transponder For Transmitting Data Signal

View page
US Patent:
6870797, Mar 22, 2005
Filed:
Jan 4, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/754955
Inventors:
Kelly J Reasoner - Ft Collins CO, US
Kristianne E Johnson - Fort Collins CO, US
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. - Houston TX
International Classification:
G11B021/08
US Classification:
369 3029, 369 3034, 700214
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for retrieving data related to a data cartridge contained in a media storage system. A transponder (e. g. , an RFID transponder) is attached to the data cartridge for storing the related data and a reader attached to a cartridge access device of the media storage system is positionable adjacent the data cartridge for reading the related data from the transponder. The reader is attached to a cartridge plunge mechanism so that the reader is positioned near the transponder regardless of the mechanical tolerances of the media storage system. Once positioned adjacent one another, the transponder is activated and queried by the reader. The transponder transmits a data signal containing the related data to the reader and a controller operatively associated with the reader processes the data signal.
