Inventors:
David Jenkins - Tucson AZ
Robert Pagano - Tucson AZ
Kevin Garcia - Tucson AZ
Robert Passera - Bradford, CA
Joseph A. Griffin - White Lake MI
Gerhard F. Hirmer - Aurora, CA
Assignee:
Decoma International Inc. - Concord
International Classification:
B29D 1100
US Classification:
264 22, 264 25, 264 405, 2643287, 425808
Abstract:
A rear signal lamp of an automotive vehicle comprising a lamp housing and a curved cover lens for enclosing a thin light managing system. The thin light managing systems includes a plurality of backlight light-emitting diodes mounted in a light mounting substrate and secured to the lamp housing. A control module operatively connected to the light-emitting diodes for controlling the operation and illumination of the light-emitting diodes. A reflector matrix having a plurality of reflector cones corresponding to each of the light-emitting diodes in the mounting substrate and a hybrid optics panel having a direct lensing section covering the reflector matrix and light-emitting diodes and a double redirecting light pipe section surrounding the lensing section. A single light-emitting diodes is coupled along spaced apart quadrants of the redirecting light pipe. Each single light-emitting diodes emits light to the respective quadrant of the optics panel which is reflected and redirected from one or more lens facets to illuminated the front surface of the panel.

Ghost Image Correction System And Method

View page
US Patent:
7120309, Oct 10, 2006
Filed:
Nov 8, 2001
Appl. No.:
10/008594
Inventors:
Kevin J. Garcia - Tucson AZ, US
Assignee:
LightSharp LLC - Tucson AZ
International Classification:
G06K 9/40
US Classification:
382275, 382260, 382274, 358 326, 358 327, 352160
Abstract:
A new and useful method and system for correcting for ghost images in a telecentric optical system is provided. Ghost images generated from planar optical surfaces in the image space after the major elements of a telecentric optical system are shift invariant. In other words the ghost images produced by these optical elements do not change their shape with different field angles or points. The ghost image's invariance with field position will allow the ghost image to be subtracted or removed from the image of an object recorded on a digital detector such as CCD or CMOS detector when its optical system is telecentric in image space. This subtraction may be accomplished, for example, with a removal technique using a measured ghost function germane and invariant to that particular optical system. The combination of the ghost image and scatter functions is linearly shift invariant and therefore, both noise contributions could be removed from the resulting digital image using similar removal techniques.

Nov 21, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/562325
Inventors:
Brian L. Wilt - Middleton WI, US
Patrick Shipley - Sun Prairie WI, US
Frederick N. Bushroe - Tucson AZ, US
Kevin Garcia - Tucson AZ, US
Assignee:
Kerr Corporation - Orange CA
International Classification:
F21V 21/08
F21S 8/08
F21S 4/00
US Classification:
362103, 362105, 362418, 362419, 362570, 362572
Abstract:
A user-wearable illumination assembly comprises a mounting fixture that is adapted to be coupled to a user-wearable device, such as eyeglasses, goggles, face masks, helmets, or other devices. A light guide has a first end that can be coupled to a light source, and a second end coupled to a lens housing that is in turn coupled to the mounting fixture. An optical lens in the lens housing cooperates with the light guide to project light from the light source through the lens. In one embodiment, the lens has a substantially spherical surface facing the second end of the light guide and an aspheric surface facing away from the second end of the light guide. In another embodiment, the mounting fixture comprises articulating portions to permit independent or simultaneous adjustment of the lens housing to direct projected light in a desired direction.

Illumination Device For An Image Capture System

View page
US Patent:
8559074, Oct 15, 2013
Filed:
Apr 6, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/080838
Inventors:
Matthew Ryan Keniston - Lexington KY, US
Paul Scott Nicholas Sherrill - Lexington KY, US
Mark Eric Miller - Versailles KY, US
William Michael Connors - Lexington KY, US
Kevin Garcia - Tucson AZ, US
Assignee:
Lexmark International, Inc. - Lexington KY
International Classification:
H04N 1/04
US Classification:
358475, 358509, 358474
Abstract:
An illumination device for an image capture system according to one example embodiment includes an integrating light pipe having an input face and an output face. The integrating light pipe is positioned to receive light from a light source at the input face and transmit the light at the output face. A projection element is positioned to focus the light from the output face to a document plane to be imaged by an image sensor. A uniformity correction device is positioned to attenuate the light from the output face so that the light has a substantially uniform intensity at the image sensor and a less uniform intensity at the document plane than at the image sensor.

Pulsed Imaging, Pulse Width Modulation Scanner For A Tri-Level Highlight Color Imaging System

View page
US Patent:
52607992, Nov 9, 1993
Filed:
Sep 9, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/756643
Inventors:
Robert P. Loce - Rochester NY
Martin E. Banton - Fairport NY
Melvin E. Swanberg - Claremont CA
William L. Lama - Webster NY
Michael S. Cianciosi - Rochester NY
Susan E. Feth - Rochester NY
Kevin J. Garcia - Tucson AZ
Peter K. Wu - LaPalma CA
Girmay K. Girmay - Inglewood CA
Assignee:
Xerox Corporation - Stamford CT
International Classification:
H04N 140
US Classification:
358300
Abstract:
A pulsed imaging, facet tracked, Raster Output Scanner utilizes pulse width modulation in conjunction with spatial filtering to form three exposure levels at the surface of a charged photoreceptor medium, one of the levels associated with a specific color. This type of scanner with a nominal video rendering experiences a color line growth in the process direction. The line growth problem is caused by a coherent optical effect. The resultant output print has bolded color lines in the process direction. Several techniques are set forth to compensate for this line growth. In a preferred technique, the video data stream is modified by locating or positioning video pulses representing white information at the start of an associated pixel time period. When the color pixel is imaged, it will therefore, always abut an adjoining white pulse and will be inhibited from spreading into the adjacent pixel period. Other techniques rely upon inversion of white pulses, or separation of white pulses into two signals, each segment moved to the beginning and the end of the associated pixel period.

Apparatus And Method For Characterizing The Luminous Intensity Of A Lamp Using A Curved Mirror And Curved Screen

View page
US Patent:
57293368, Mar 17, 1998
Filed:
May 6, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/643574
Inventors:
Keith N. Prettyjohns - Tucson AZ
Stephen L. Marcus - Tucson AZ
Kevin J. Garcia - Tucson AZ
Assignee:
Photometrics, Ltd - Tucson AZ
International Classification:
G01J 100
US Classification:
356121
Abstract:
Apparatus for determining the luminous intensity distribution of an automotive head light employs a curved mirror and a curved screen. A solid state camera is used to obtain a pattern of the head light output from the screen. The system requires a relatively small black box into which the head light output is directed. A beam splitter may be employed to relax the constraints on the positioning of the various components within the box. The setting of the test lamp to first and to second preset lateral angular positions at each of which a pattern is captured and the combining of the two patterns permits the use of components which are practical. The use of a linear CCD array permits economies to be obtained by rotating the test lamp or the linear array over a sequence of angular positions and by constructing a composite pattern from the patterns so generated.
