Abstract:
Calibrating a transmit diversity device includes establishing diversity parameter values of diversity parameters for a plurality of signals, where each signal is transmitted from a channel of the transmit diversity device. The following are performed for each diversity parameter value to yield associations: determining a modification parameter value that yields a diversity parameter value, where a modification parameter value describes modulation of a feature of at least one signal; and associating the modification parameter value with the diversity parameter value to yield an association. Calibration data is generated in accordance with the associations.

Abstract:
Modifying a signal according to a diversity parameter adjustment includes accessing scan parameter values, where a scan parameter describes a scan process. The scan parameter values include diversity parameter vectors, where a diversity parameter vector has a diversity parameter value for each of one or more diversity parameters. The scan process is performed by repeating the following for each diversity parameter vector: modifying a signal according to the diversity parameter values of the diversity parameter vector, where the signal is transmitted from a modifying communication device to a feedback communication device; and receiving a feedback signal reflecting feedback information describing the signal as received by the feedback communication device.

A receiver, or base station, may calculate the signal quality improvement based on a change in a diversity control parameter, for example, a phase difference or a power ratio among two or more antennas, by comparing a received signal power level to an expected power level, assuming no change in fading characteristics at the previous timeslot. Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention describe methods for increasing the amount of information available to a mobile transmit diversity transmitter during soft handoff. According to embodiments of the invention, a transmit diversity transmitter may determine substantially when it is within the range of at least two receivers. In such situations, the transmitter may use the power control signals from more than one receiver, for example, from the two most dominant receivers in order to focus the beamforming accordingly.
