Portable System For Monitoring And Processing Patient Parameters In Multiple Oprational Modes

View page
US Patent:
20040147818, Jul 29, 2004
Filed:
Nov 12, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/712758
Inventors:
Andrew Levy - Charlestown MA, US
Wolfgang Scholz - Beverly MA, US
Tomas Russ - Carlisle MA, US
Clifford Kelly - Windham NH, US
Joseph Elaz - North Andover MA, US
Kenneth Fuchs - Wayland MA, US
International Classification:
A61B005/00
US Classification:
600/300000, 340/539120
Abstract:
A system, housed as a portable monitoring unit, monitors and processes signal parameters acquired from a patient in multiple operational modes. A data acquisition processor receives patient parameter data from a plurality of different patient attached sensors and processes that data to provide processed patient parameter data. An image reproduction device displays processed patient parameter data. A communication interface communicates the processed patient parameter data to the image reproduction device for display and concurrently communicates the processed patient parameter data to either a docking station when said portable monitoring unit is docked in said docking station in a first mode or a network access point coupled to a communication network via wireless communication in a second mode. A power unit re-charges a battery in the portable monitoring unit in the first mode.

Systems And Methods For Monitoring Patients With Real-Time Video

US Patent:
20130267873, Oct 10, 2013
Filed:
Apr 10, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/443744
Inventors:
Kenneth J. Fuchs - Wayland MA, US
Assignee:
MINDRAY DS USA, INC. - Mahwah NJ
International Classification:
A61B 5/11
A61B 5/103
H04N 7/18
A61B 5/00
US Classification:
600595, 600300, 600587, 348 77, 348E07085
Abstract:
A method and system for monitoring remotely located patients that includes real-time video of the remotely located patients. The method and system may be implemented as part of a central nursing station, a remote ICU, or a remote patient monitor. The method and system may also allow for real-time audio communication with the remotely located patients. The real-time video and real-time audio may permit improved response to alarms by allowing medical practitioners to reduce the rate of false-positive and false-negative alarms. Further, the real-time video and real-time audio may be used to generate additional alarm criteria. A camera for generating the real-time video may be part of a patient monitor or may be a separate system. Settings for the camera may be controlled from remotely.

Method And Apparatus For Automatic Configuration Of A Network Node

View page
US Patent:
59365390, Aug 10, 1999
Filed:
Mar 19, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/618155
Inventors:
Kenneth Fuchs - Wayland MA
Assignee:
Siemens Medical Systems, Inc. - Iselin NJ
International Classification:
G06F 300
G06F 1700
H04Q 900
US Classification:
34082507
Abstract:
A monitor system of the type including at least one portable patient monitor for acquiring, processing and transferring patient data monitored from a patient, the system being distributed over at least two geographically separate patient monitoring areas which are interconnected via a communication network having a network node connection in each of the areas. A patient monitor docking station located in one of the patient monitoring areas provides for transmission of patient data from the portable patient monitor to the network via a selective coupling of the portable patient monitor to the network node connection. The docking station provides, in addition to the selective coupling to the portable monitor and apparatus for transferring patient data between the portable monitor and the docking station, a memory for storing network related information and transferring the network related information to the portable monitor when it is coupled to the docking station.

Pressure Data Acquisition Device For A Patient Monitoring System

View page
US Patent:
55666760, Oct 22, 1996
Filed:
Dec 11, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/989416
Inventors:
Bernd Rosenfeldt - Hamilton MA
Kenneth Fuchs - Wayland MA
Robert R. Addiss - Bedford MA
Assignee:
Siemens Medical Systems, Inc. - Iselin NJ
International Classification:
A61B 502
US Classification:
128672
Abstract:
A data acquisition device is disclosed for use in a patient monitoring system which includes a display device. The system also includes a pressure transducer which produces patient blood pressure signals. The data acquisition device includes terminals for receiving signals representing blood pressure from the pressure transducer. Circuitry in the data acquisition device, including multiplexers and a digital to analog converter conditions the signals representing blood pressure. The pressure transducer and the circuitry are collocated. The device also includes circuit paths for electrically coupling the pressure transducer and the conditioning circuitry. The conditioning circuitry is selectably coupled to the display to provide the conditioned signals to the display. The data acquisition device may be positioned independently of the display device.

Network Connectivity For A Portable Patient Monitor

View page
US Patent:
57529175, May 19, 1998
Filed:
Mar 19, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/618157
Inventors:
Kenneth Fuchs - Wayland MA
Assignee:
Siemens Medical Systems, Inc. - Iselin NJ
International Classification:
A61B 502
US Classification:
600484
Abstract:
A monitor system for acquiring medical data from a patient is distributed over at least two geographically separate patient monitoring areas and interconnected via a communication network. A portable monitor (102) coupled to a patient receives and processes patient data signals from a sensor coupled to the patient. At least two patient monitor docking stations (111) are provided, each one of which is selectively coupled to the portable monitor and connected for transmission of patient data received from the portable patient monitor to the communication network. Each docking station comprises a coupler for detachably coupling the portable monitor to the docking station, a signal transfer device (108) for transferring patient-related data signals between the portable monitor and the docking station when the portable monitor is coupled to the docking station, and a signal processor for monitoring the patient-related data signals provided by the signal transfer device for developing a connection information signal when the portable monitor is coupled to the docking station, the connection information signal being applied for developing an alarm in the event that the signal processor monitors that the portable monitor is not operating correctly.
