US Patent:
20010050750, Dec 13, 2001
Filed:
May 30, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/870083
Inventors:
Joseph Breger - Highland Park IL, US
International Classification:
G02C007/04
US Classification:
351/161000, 351/16000R
Abstract:
A multi-focal simultaneous vision contact lens includes a central vision element and an outer vision element formed in a single, unitary, monolithic body of contact lens material. The central vision element has a diameter less than 2.00 mm. Additional vision elements, such as an intermediate range element, can be included, as well.

US Patent:
48695874, Sep 26, 1989
Filed:
Dec 16, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/133326
Inventors:
Joseph L. Breger - Highland Park IL
International Classification:
G02C 704
US Classification:
351161
Abstract:
Disclosed is a multifocal contact lens of the concentric simultaneous vision type. A bifocal embodiment of the lens includes a central, near portion and an outer surrounding, distant portion. The lens body has a circular outer periphery and the near and distant portions are concentrically arranged on the lens body. The lens includes a prism ballast weighting at a lower edge and has a posterior curve fitted to the wearer's eye so that the lens is low-riding. The center of the near portion of the lens is offset below the center of the wearer's pupil leaving a crescent-shaped portion of the pupil covered by the distant rather than the near portion of the lens. In another embodiment, the lens is provided with a central distant portion of reduced size which, when downwardly offset with respect to the wearer's pupil, overlies a generally ovoid portion thereof. A trifocal embodiment of the lens includes a central portion having a first optical prescription, an outer annular portion having a second optical prescription, and an intermediate annular portion having an intermediate optical prescription. The central portion may provide either near or distant power correction, with the outer portion providing distant or near power correction, respectively.

US Patent:
44189915, Dec 6, 1983
Filed:
Jun 9, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/157399
Inventors:
Joseph L. Breger - Highland Park IL
International Classification:
G02C 704
G02C 706
US Classification:
351161
Abstract:
A contact lens to correct presbyopia provides a distance correction at the center, increasing diopter adds away from the center for close and intermediate viewing and a good physical fit. The lens has a generally spherical anterior surface and a posterior surface with an annular fitting region for good physical fit and an optical region having a central portion providing a distance correction and a paracentral portion providing a gradient of diopter adds for close and intermediate viewing.

Corneal Contact Lens And Method Of Making The Same

View page
US Patent:
41039920, Aug 1, 1978
Filed:
Jan 20, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/542576
Inventors:
Joseph L. Breger - Highland Park IL
Joseph A. Stemmle - Thousand Oaks CA
Assignee:
Breger-Mueller Welt Corp. - Chicago IL
International Classification:
G02C 704
US Classification:
351160
Abstract:
An improved transparent corneal contact lens and method of making the same is disclosed. The lens has an outer edge portion of about 0. 7 mm effective radius and a thickness of between about 0. 003 to about 0. 004 inches. The apex of the outer edge is positioned to be at or below the center line between the posterior and anterior surfaces of the outer edge portion to enable lacrimal fluid to flow between the lens and the corneal surface as well as substantially reduce the possibility of collision by the upper lid during closing. The method involves slowly heating, maintaining and cooling the lens and thereafter cutting the lens within a specified time after it has reached ambient temperature, which enables the lens to be more thinly cut.
