Method For Self-Detection Of Pupillary Response

View page
US Patent:
6637885, Oct 28, 2003
Filed:
Mar 21, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/101966
Inventors:
John P. Petrali - Churchville MD
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Army - Washington DC
International Classification:
A61B 302
US Classification:
351223
Abstract:
A method for self-detection of exposure to organophosphates includes (a) providing a device for monitoring pupillary response; (b) switching the device on and placing the eyeglass cup over the eye to be tested; (c) blocking light from entering the other eye; and (d) observing whether or not the pupil in the eye to be tested dilates. The device for monitoring pupillary response includes a housing; an eyeglass cup attached to the housing, the eyeglass cup including an insert tower and a glass aperture disposed on an end of the insert tower; a power supply disposed in the housing; a light source connected to the power supply; and a switch for controlling power to the light source.

Free-Floating Cryostat Sections For Immunoelectron Microscopy

View page
US Patent:
20030049719, Mar 13, 2003
Filed:
Sep 10, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/949572
Inventors:
John Petrali - Churchville MD, US
Robert Kan - Abingdon MD, US
Tracey Hamilton - Bel Air MD, US
International Classification:
G01N033/48
A01N001/02
G01N001/30
US Classification:
435/040500, 435/002000
Abstract:
A method is described of viewing a single tissue sample with a light microscope and an electron microscope. A tissue sample is cryopreserved, cryo sectioned and then floated in a cryoprotectant solution on a surface of a glass slide or in a well and is viewed by light microscopy. The step of floating the tissue sample does not destroy said tissue sample for subsequent electron microscope viewing. The same tissue sample is then prepared by conventional ultrastructural processing for viewing by electron microscopy. The data from the light microscope and electron microscope images of selected sites of the same tissue sample can be compared and analyzed.
