Automatic Generation Of Event-Handling Rules From System Log Entries

View page
US Patent:
7818274, Oct 19, 2010
Filed:
Sep 20, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/524725
Inventors:
Iqlas Maheen Ottamalika - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
G06F 17/00
G06N 5/00
US Classification:
706 45
Abstract:
Approaches to automatic generation of event handling rules are presented. In one approach, a system for automatic event handling rule generation includes a system log file, containing a syslog entry. A rule module is used to interpret the syslog entry. An entry format depository is available to the rule module, and contains a description of the general format corresponding to the syslog entry. An entry causation depository is available to the rule module, and contains both a cause for the syslog entry's creation, and a solution template corresponding to the syslog entry. The rule module uses the general format to parse information from the syslog entry, and uses that information to locate the cause and a solution template. The rule module then uses the information from the syslog entry to complete the solution template, thereby generating a rule to alter the behavior which caused the syslog entry to be created.

International Classification:
H04L 12/28
G06F 15/16
H04L 29/06
US Classification:
370241, 3702411, 713154, 726 13
Abstract:
A method for graphically displaying a packet progression within a network device is described. The method includes identifying a plurality of phases that correspond to an operation of a plurality of operations performed on said packet. The method further includes displaying the plurality of phases. The method further includes indicating progression of the packet through the plurality of phases.

Method And System For Accessing And Launching A Java Based Applet As A Locally Installed Application

View page
US Patent:
7930693, Apr 19, 2011
Filed:
Apr 4, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/099395
Inventors:
Iqlas Maheen Ottamalika - San Jose CA, US
Maximilian J. Spring - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
G06F 9/44
G06F 9/445
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
717173, 717178, 709219
Abstract:
A method for launching an interface with a remotely located electronic device. Specifically, a loader that is locally installed is launched. The loader is associated with an embedded application stored on a remote device. Communication is established with the remote device to access a first checksum value that is stored on the remote device. Thereafter, the first checksum value is compared against a second checksum value of a locally stored version of the embedded application. The locally stored version of the embedded application is launched when the first check value matches the second checksum value.

Steven Lee - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
H04L 29/06
US Classification:
726 11, 726 1
Abstract:
Methods and systems for associating an event log entry with the rule that triggered its creation are described. In one embodiment, an apparatus is described. The apparatus has an event handling device for applying a plurality of rules; an event log with a plurality of log entries, and a hash value appender for appending a hash value log entries. When the event handling device performs an application of one of the rules, an entry is created in said event log, and the hash value generator appends a unique hash value to the entry. The unique hash value corresponds to the rule that was applied.
