Howard E. Churchwell - Monroe MI, US
Todd N. Clark - Dearborn MI, US
John W. Jensen - Canton MI, US
Assignee:
Ford Global Technologies, LLC - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
B60Q 1/00
G02F 1/15
G02B 23/16
US Classification:
340449, 340438, 3404255, 340517, 340522, 340667, 340555, 340588, 340601, 34081541, 340600, 34053928, 359265, 359275, 359601, 349 16
Abstract:
A sun protection system for a transportation vehicle has plurality of LCD zones laminated into one or more glazings of the vehicle. An occupant sensor detects an expanse of at least one occupant in the vehicle. A navigation system determines a vehicle location, a date and time value, and a heading. External and internal temperature sensors sense outside and inside temperatures. A controller generates respective drive signals for the respective LCD zones in a manual mode and in an automatic mode. The controller compares a temperature difference between the outside temperature and the inside temperature to a temperature threshold. The respective drive signals provide substantially zero attenuation if the temperature difference is less than the temperature threshold while in the automatic mode.

Vehicle Anti-Lock Brake System Demonstration

View page
US Patent:
59916729, Nov 23, 1999
Filed:
Mar 17, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/819383
Inventors:
Anthony J. Rendi - Canton MI
Howard Churchwell - Harper Woods MI
Assignee:
Ford Motor Company - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
G06F 700
US Classification:
701 30
Abstract:
A diagnostic readout tool can be programmed to generate and deliver electronic signals representative of different road wheel slippage conditions on various road surfaces, such as ice, snow, gravel or dry pavement. The artificially-created signals can be applied to an electronic control module in a vehicle anti-lock brake system, thereby permitting a person seated in the vehicle to experience the action and feel of the anti-lock brake operation while the vehicle is in a stand-still condition.

Vehicle Intake-Manifold System

US Patent:
20190323440, Oct 24, 2019
Filed:
Jan 10, 2017
Appl. No.:
16/476766
Inventors:
- Dearborn MI, US
Mahmoud Yousef GHANNAM - Canton MI, US
Howard CHURCHWELL - Monroe MI, US
John W. JENSEN - Canton MI, US
John Vincent FAZIO - Dearborn MI, US
International Classification:
F02D 41/00
F02D 41/02
F02D 41/22
F02M 35/08
F02M 35/10
F02M 35/108
B60K 13/02
Abstract:
A system in a vehicle includes a primary intake manifold, a secondary intake manifold, a valve, and a computer. The primary and secondary intake manifolds are configured for an engine compartment of the vehicle. The secondary intake manifold is arrangeable to extend from outside the engine compartment to the valve. The valve is connected to each of the primary and secondary intake manifolds. The computer is in communication with the valve and programmed to identify a flood risk and then actuate the valve.

Fuel Control Regulator System With Acoustic Pliability

View page
US Patent:
20180208055, Jul 26, 2018
Filed:
Mar 20, 2018
Appl. No.:
15/926979
Inventors:
- Dearborn MI, US
Mahmoud Yousef Ghannam - Canton MI, US
David James Bauch - South Lyon MI, US
Howard Churchwell - Monroe MI, US
International Classification:
B60K 15/077
G07C 5/00
B60Q 5/00
Abstract:
A fuel control regulator system for a vehicle is disclosed in which a restraint control module registers an acceleration/deceleration that falls outside of predetermined limits. In one embodiment, the fuel control regulator system includes a vehicle including steering, an accelerator, brakes, one or more audio devices in proximity to one or more front crash sensors recording sensor data, a processor, and memory. The restraint control module is coupled to the processor and configured to dynamically adjust a threshold to lie outside of an amplitude of the sensor data of the one or more front crash sensors compromised by sound from the one or more audio devices. In another embodiment, the fuel control regulator system adjusts the sensor data of an affected front crash sensor to lie within an existing threshold. In yet another embodiment, the fuel control regulator system ignores the sensor data of an affected front crash sensor.

Method And Apparatus For Advanced Vehicle Data Delivery Using Secondary Device

US Patent:
20180124177, May 3, 2018
Filed:
Oct 27, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/335894
Inventors:
- Dearborn MI, US
Jerry Alex JAMES - Ypsilanti MI, US
Howard CHURCHWELL - Monroe MI, US
International Classification:
H04L 29/08
H04W 4/00
H04L 12/28
Abstract:
A system includes a processor configured to receive sensor data from a vehicle sensor. The processor is also configured to determine an existence of a condition for which information display has been designated. The processor is further configured to determine a non-vehicular device predesignated for receipt and display of the information and responsive to the condition determination, transfer the information to the device.

Filtration Of Acoustic Contaminate From Vehicle Safety Sensors

View page
US Patent:
20180072324, Mar 15, 2018
Filed:
Sep 12, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/263350
Inventors:
- Dearborn MI, US
Mahmoud Yousef Ghannam - Canton MI, US
Howard Churchwell - Monroe MI, US
John Vincent Fazio - Dearborn MI, US
Lirjon Llusho - Saint Clair Shores MI, US
International Classification:
B60W 50/00
Abstract:
A vehicle includes: an audio system, local sensors including a crash sensor, a fuel pump, and processor(s) configured to: (a) select filter(s) based on a determined audio system state; (b) decontaminate present crash sensor data via the filter(s); (c) determine whether to deactivate the fuel pump based on the decontaminated data. The processor(s) are configured to map prior crash sensor data to prior determined audio system states and select the filter(s) by selecting some of the mapped prior crash sensor data.

Active Fuel Control System For Aggressive Drivers

View page
US Patent:
20170232841, Aug 17, 2017
Filed:
Feb 15, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/043824
Inventors:
- Dearborn MI, US
Mahmoud Yousef GHANNAM - Canton MI, US
David James BAUCH - South Lyon MI, US
Howard CHURCHWELL - Monroe MI, US
International Classification:
B60K 28/14
F02D 41/26
B60K 28/02
F02D 41/02
Abstract:
A vehicle includes a fuel pump configured to deliver fuel to an internal combustion engine. The vehicle also includes an accelerometer configured to detect acceleration of a vehicle component. A plurality of sensors are provided about the vehicle for detecting conditions that would indicate aggressive driving. At least one controller is provided and is in communication with the fuel pump, the accelerometer, and the sensors. The at least one controller is programmed to adjust a fuel pump shutoff threshold to an adjusted shutoff threshold in response to one or more conditions indicating aggressive driving. The at least one controller then shuts off the fuel pump in response to the acceleration exceeding the adjusted shutoff threshold.
