System And Method For Identification Of Uplink/Downlink Interference Sources

View page
US Patent:
6442384, Aug 27, 2002
Filed:
Oct 22, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/426139
Inventors:
Ali R. Shah - Dallas TX
Hossam Hmimy - Plano TX
Assignee:
Ericsson Inc. - Richardson TX
International Classification:
H04Q 720
US Classification:
455423, 455 63, 455 673, 455501, 455 62, 455 64, 455424, 455283, 455296
Abstract:
A system and method of identifying the source of uplink and downlink interference in a disturbed cell of a wireless telecommunications network. Initially, call events occurring in offending cells are recorded. In conjunction, the disturbance events occurring in the disturbed cell of the telecommunications network are recorded. The recorded call events with recorded disturbance events are then correlated. A distribution of disturbed and offending cells within the telecommunications network as a function of time is computed to obtain a statistical correlation of call events in offending cells and subsequent disturbances resulting in the disturbed cell to identify the possible source of disturbances that caused the sealing of the sealed device with in the disturbed cell.

Adaptive Carrier Assignment In Multiple Reuse Patterns For Packet Data Systems Based On Service Type And User Location

View page
US Patent:
6512752, Jan 28, 2003
Filed:
Dec 30, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/475627
Inventors:
Hossam Hmimy - Plano TX
Anees Ahmedi - Irving TX
Alan Triggs - Dallas TX
Assignee:
Ericsson Inc. - Plano TX
International Classification:
H04Q 700
US Classification:
370329, 455450, 455447, 455513
Abstract:
A system and method of assigning frequencies from a reuse group according to service type and subscriber location in a wireless communications network utilizing multiple reuse frequency groups for the assignment of transmission channels. Initially, a mobile station requests a transmission channel. A network element then receives the request and determines the data rate requirements of the mobile station for the level of service provided by the network to the mobile station. Concurrently, the signal strength from the mobile station to a serving base station subsystem is measured. The network element then assigns a frequency to the mobile station which belongs to a reuse frequency group that supports the data rate requirements at the signal strength measured.

System And Method For Coverage And Interference Prediction And Tradeoff

View page
US Patent:
6535747, Mar 18, 2003
Filed:
Dec 23, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/470912
Inventors:
Ali R. Shah - Dallas TX
Hossam Hmimy - Plano TX
Assignee:
Ericsson Inc. - Plano TX
International Classification:
H04B 110
US Classification:
455522, 455 62, 455 63, 455517, 455562
Abstract:
A method and system of optimizing the signal strength and interference characteristics of a wireless telecommunications network which includes a plurality of cells with at least one of the cells being disturbed (the âdisturbed cellâ) by events occurring in one or more offending cells. The method comprises the step of computing a distribution of disturbance events in the disturbed cell as a function of disturbances created by the offending cells. The distribution of disturbance events is then utilized to predict changes in coverage of the offending cells as changes in the carrier-to-interference (C/I) ratio of the disturbed cell are made. Such predictions then lead to modifying the power levels of wireless components in the network to reach acceptable tradeoffs between interference and coverage. Thus, the tradeoff is a function of the predicted changes in C/I and acceptable coverage and interference thresholds for the network.

Method Of Optimizing Handoff Hysteresis Values In A Cellular Telecommunications Network

View page
US Patent:
6745033, Jun 1, 2004
Filed:
Jun 7, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/165251
Inventors:
Ali Shah - Plano TX
Hossam Hmimy - Plano TX
Assignee:
Ericsson Inc. - Plano TX
International Classification:
H04Q 720
US Classification:
455436, 455437, 455438, 455440, 370332, 370333
Abstract:
A method in a cellular telecommunications network for optimizing a current hysteresis value utilized to define a handoff border between a present cell and a neighbor cell. Pairs of signal strength (SS) measurements are collected from a plurality of mobile stations operating near the handoff border. Each SS measurement pair includes an SS measurement from the present cell and an SS measurement from the neighbor cell. A midpoint SS is then calculated by determining an average SS measurement from the present cell, an average SS measurement from the neighbor cell, and an overall average of the average SS measurement from the present cell and the average SS measurement from the neighbor cell. The method then optimizes the handoff border by subtracting from the current hysteresis value, an amount approximately equal to the difference between the midpoint SS and the average SS measurement from the present cell.

System And Method For Variable Reassignment Of Transmission Channels

View page
US Patent:
6442151, Aug 27, 2002
Filed:
Apr 6, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/287140
Inventors:
Hossam H. Hmimy - Plano TX
Ali R. Shah - Dallas TX
Assignee:
Ericsson Inc. - Richardson TX
International Classification:
H04Q 720
US Classification:
370333, 370329, 370330, 370332, 455423, 455450, 455452, 455509, 455512, 455513
Abstract:
A method of assigning a channel to a service in a wireless communications network based on interferences levels and channel quality. Channels are preassigned and then reassigned using an algorithm that assigns a channel to a service based on uplink interference and channel quality measurements. Reassignment can be achieved in one processing pass, rather than requiring multiple iterations.

Enhanced Downlink Message Delivery In Wide Area Networks

View page
US Patent:
20220256650, Aug 11, 2022
Filed:
Apr 25, 2022
Appl. No.:
17/728977
Inventors:
- St. Louis MO, US
Hossam Hmimy - Aurora CO, US
Wael Guibene - Parker CO, US
Muhammad Khan - Greenwood Village CO, US
International Classification:
H04W 88/16
H04W 72/04
H04B 17/318
Abstract:
A network server selects a gateway, from among a plurality of alternative candidate gateways, to use for downlink wireless communication to an end node (EN) based on additional factors in addition to RSSI. Exemplary additional factors include: SNR, gateway loading, message loading, backhaul network loading, device type, application type, application priority, operator preferences, device/application black-lists, white-lists, and red-lists, number of devices, number of transmitting devices in a given time interval, operator rules and priorities. In some embodiments, the network server calculates a composite weighted metric (CWM) for each of the alternative candidate gateways which may be used for downlink, subject to operator policy rules, and selects to use a gateway based on the results, e.g. selects the gateway with the highest CWM.
