US Patent:
20120094285, Apr 19, 2012
Filed:
Dec 10, 2009
Appl. No.:
13/133889
Inventors:
Gerard A Cangelosi - Seattle WA, US
John Scott Meschke - Bothell WA, US
Kris Weigel - Seattle WA, US
Assignee:
Seattle Biomedical Research Institute - Seattle WA
University of Washington - Seattle WA
International Classification:
C12Q 1/68
US Classification:
435 611, 435 615, 435 612
Abstract:
Disclosed are compositions and methods for detecting the presence of viable cells in a sample. Included are compositions and methods for increasing the sensitivity of a nucleic acid amplification test for determining the presence of at least one target microorganism in a sample. Also disclosed are compositions and methods for detecting ribosomal RNA precursors (pre-rRNA) as dynamic indicators of viable microorganisms in a sample.

Rapid And Sensitive Detection Of Antibiotic-Resistant Mycobacteria Using Oligonucleotide Probe Specific For Ribosomal Rna Precursors

US Patent:
57703736, Jun 23, 1998
Filed:
Nov 8, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/745638
Inventors:
Theresa B. Britschgi - Seattle WA
Gerard A. Cangelosi - Seattle WA
Assignee:
Becton Dickinson and Company - Franklin Lakes NJ
International Classification:
C12Q 168
US Classification:
435 6
Abstract:
The invention relates to methods and oligonucleotide probe compositions useful for determining antibiotic resistance in Mycobacteria. Included are methods for freeing intact precursor ribosomal RNA from mycobacterial cells and for assaying the levels of pre-rRNA in the cells. Also claimed are methods useful in discovering new anti-mycobacterial therapeutic agents.

Diagnostic Kits Useful For Selectively Detecting Microorganisms In Samples

View page
US Patent:
57766940, Jul 7, 1998
Filed:
Jul 2, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/886999
Inventors:
Diana K. Sheiness - Bothell WA
Trevor H. Adams - Buckinghamshire, GB2
Michael R. Stamm - Bothell WA
Gerard A. Cangelosi - Seattle WA
Theresa B. Britschgi - Seattle WA
Connie K. Dix - Arlington WA
Assignee:
Becton Dickinson Company - Franklin Lakes NJ
International Classification:
C12Q 168
C07H 2104
US Classification:
435 6
Abstract:
The present invention relates, in general, to diagnostic kits for selectively detecting a prokaryotic microorganism and a eukaryotic microorganism in a sample wherein the cells of such microorganisms are lysed by combining the sample with a lysis solution and contacting the nucleic acid released from the microorganisms with selective nucleic acid probes through hybridization techniques. The present invention can be used for detecting microorganisms associated with vaginal disorders, e. g. , Gardnerella vaginalis, Trichomonas vaginalis and Candida albicans. These kits may be used in a medical practitioner's private office or in a more structured clinical environment, such as a hospital, a commercial clinical microbiology laboratory or the like.

US Patent:
57260214, Mar 10, 1998
Filed:
Nov 27, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/757180
Inventors:
Theresa B. Britschgi - Seattle WA
Gerard A. Cangelosi - Seattle WA
Assignee:
Becton Dickinson and Company - Franklin Lakes NJ
International Classification:
C12Q 168
C12Q 100
US Classification:
435 6
Abstract:
The invention relates to methods and compositions useful for rapidly freeing precursor ribosomal RNA from mycobacterial cells. The methods and compositions further result in detectable levels of ribosomal RNA precursors that are not degraded.
