Rigid Ankle And Foot Orthosis

View page
US Patent:
6689081, Feb 10, 2004
Filed:
Sep 5, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/947493
Inventors:
Gerald D. Bowman - Winnetka CA,
International Classification:
A61F 500
US Classification:
602 27, 602 16, 128882
Abstract:
A therapeutic ankle and foot orthosis or brace includes a lower shell and an upper lateral shell which are movably coupled together by a pivot so that the shells accommodate the contour, size and shape of the users foot and ankle. Cushions are included on the shells to provide comfort and straps with hook and pile fasteners are employed to detachably retain the combined shells on the ankle and foot of the user.

Method A Designing, Engineering Modeling And Manufacturing Orthotics And Prosthetics Integrating Algorithm Generated Predictions

View page
US Patent:
2006010, May 11, 2006
Filed:
Nov 8, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/983790
Inventors:
Gerald Bowman - Winnetka CA,
International Classification:
G06F 17/10
US Classification:
703002000
Abstract:
The present invention represents an advancement on the current processes involved in designing, engineering, modeling and manufacturing of orthotic and prosthetic devices. Orthotic and prosthetic computer aided design software has the option to apply measurements to a template to create a patient specific model. The use of algorithm generated predictions (also referred to as “AGP”) software takes this functionality and makes it more scientific. Algorithm generated predictions is the process of predicting the appropriate size and shape data through the use of complex algorithms. Certain key pieces of data are entered into the software that then calculates the appropriate dimensions and the appropriate computer aided design template. The dimensions are then applied to the computer aided design template. The computer aided design software modifies the templates by reducing and enlarging areas as necessary and a custom computer aided design model is created that can then be transformed into a physical model for the manufacture of the device.

Orthopedic Foot Splint With An Optional Posterior Strut And Cuff

View page
US Patent:
2007001, Jan 18, 2007
Filed:
Jul 12, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/179366
Inventors:
Gerald Bowman - Winnetka CA,
International Classification:
A61F 5/00
A61F 5/37
US Classification:
602024000, 602023000, 128882000
Abstract:
A flexible orthopedic foot splint comprising two shoes containing screw receptacles in the soles; a bar contains one or more small apertures for connecting the shoes to the bar; two or more screws which fit through the apertures on the bar and attaches said bar to the shoes via said screw receptacles in the soles of said shoes; a posterior strut attachment that distally connects to the bar and one shoe via said screw receptacles; half circular cuffs attach to the strut attachment and wrap around an infants calf; said cuff is securely held to the leg via a hook and loop fastener wherein said bar is made of a low modulus plastic yielding great flexibility upon the application of force. With the orthopedic foot splint of the present invention, when a child attempts to stretch and pull his foot into plantarflexion and adduction the present invention allows some motion but limits excessive motion and then springs the foot back into the corrected alignment. As a result of the allowed motion the heel is not forced upwards in the shoe and the risk of the foot pulling out of the shoe diminished.
