Display Device Having Guides Linking Buttons To Display Information

View page
US Patent:
7961455, Jun 14, 2011
Filed:
Jun 5, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/479180
Inventors:
Erik Anthony Wippler - Canton MI, US
Assignee:
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. - Erlanger KY
International Classification:
G06F 1/16
US Classification:
36167902, 36167921, 362516, 362517, 359599, 359615
Abstract:
A housing for mounting a display device is provided. The display device includes a display screen capable of displaying an executable function and an input selector which corresponds to the displayed function such that upon actuation of the input selector the displayed function is executed. The housing includes a generally planar surface disposed spaced apart from the display screen. An aperture is formed in the generally planar surface so that the display screen is visible through the generally planar surface. A ledge bounding at least a portion of the aperture extends from the generally planar surface to the display screen. A guide formed on the ledge links the input selector to the displayed function. The ledge has a first reflectance and the guide has a second reflectance which is different than the first reflectance so as to provide a contrast between the ledge and the guide due to the different amounts of light emitted from the display screen reflecting off the ledge and the guide.

Apparatus To Aid In The Assembly Of Cables And Electrical Components

View page
US Patent:
8011720, Sep 6, 2011
Filed:
Apr 9, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/420892
Inventors:
Erik A. Wippler - Canton MI, US
Assignee:
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. - Erlanger KY
International Classification:
B60K 37/00
US Classification:
296208
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for aiding in the assembly of a substrate to a vehicle body structure wherein the substrate includes a cable configured to attach to an electrical component mounted onto the vehicle body structure. The substrate includes a retaining device selectively disposed on the substrate and configured to releasably retain the cable. The retaining device is disposed on the substrate so as to position the cable along the substrate in such a manner that the cable will not interfere with the attachment of the substrate to the vehicle body structure. Accordingly upon attachment of the substrate to the vehicle body structure, the cable is manually removed from the retaining device and attached to the electrical component thereby preventing the cable from being trapped between the substrate and the vehicle body structure during the assembly process.

Mounting System And Method Thereof

View page
US Patent:
8113472, Feb 14, 2012
Filed:
Apr 15, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/424424
Inventors:
Erik A. Wippler - Canton MI, US
Robert Anthony Porcs - Waterford MI, US
Assignee:
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. - Erlanger KY
International Classification:
G12B 9/00
US Classification:
248 271, 248200, 248201
Abstract:
A mounting system for temporarily holding a device proximate to a panel while an individual works on the device, before the device is mounted to the panel, is provided. The mounting system can include a generally L-shaped bracket that has a catch tab extending from a distal end of the bracket. A panel is also included, the panel having a key hole with a catch slot. The catch tab can be passed through the key hole and engage the catch slot, thereby providing a temporary mount for a device attached to the generally L-shaped bracket.

Methods For Selective Activation Of Multimedia Functions And Vehicles Incorporating The Same

View page
US Patent:
8489275, Jul 16, 2013
Filed:
Jun 1, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/150619
Inventors:
Erik Anthony Wippler - Canton MI, US
Assignee:
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. - Erlanger KY
International Classification:
G06F 19/00
G06F 17/00
US Classification:
701 36, 701 316, 701400, 345156
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a method for selective activation of vehicle multimedia functions may include receiving a passenger occupancy signal indicative of an occupancy of a passenger seat from a passenger detection sensor. A gear signal indicative of a gear ratio of a transmission may be received from a vehicle gear sensor. Access to a medium interaction level function of a vehicle multimedia system may be prevented, when the passenger occupancy signal indicates that the passenger seat is unoccupied and the gear signal indicates that the gear ratio of the transmission corresponds to a motive gear. Access to the medium interaction level function of the vehicle multimedia system may be allowed, when the passenger occupancy signal indicates that the passenger seat is occupied with a passenger and the gear signal indicates that the gear ratio of the transmission corresponds to the motive gear.

Abstract:
A bracket () for attachment to a side of a radio or other multimedia instrument () having a leading edge () with an outwardly projecting, generally U-shaped rib () positioned inwardly of a free end of the leading edge, and/or an in-turned flange () positioned away from the leading edge of the bracket and having a tab () extending normally from the flange for engagement with the instrument to support and position the instrument during attachment of wiring elements to the instrument.

Method To Manufacture Chrome Buttons With Integrated Light Pipe Using Two Shot Molding Process

View page
US Patent:
20120091623, Apr 19, 2012
Filed:
Oct 18, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/906280
Inventors:
Erik Anthony Wippler - Canton MI, US
Assignee:
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. - Erlanger KY
International Classification:
B29C 70/68
B29C 71/00
B29C 45/00
US Classification:
264232
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for molding and chrome plating a button having an integrated light pipe. The method utilizes a two shot molding process to create the button housing and the light pipe. The method includes the steps of injecting a first shot of resin A wherein resin A is a resin not allowing chrome to adhere to it, allowing resin A to cool, injecting a second shot of resin B into the mold, and continuing to chrome plate the entire button wherein chrome only adheres to resin B. A light pipe formed by resin A remains transparent or translucent allowing light to shine through from a light to the eye of a user. Chrome plating adheres to resin B providing for a polished finish.
