Endovascular Sheath With Gradable Stiffness Device And Method

View page
US Patent:
20100076405, Mar 25, 2010
Filed:
Sep 23, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/235894
Inventors:
Elias Habib Kassab - Grosse Pointe Shores MI, US
Mark Edwin Zyzelewski - Kalamazoo MI, US
International Classification:
A61M 25/09
A61M 25/00
US Classification:
604524, 604528
Abstract:
An endovascular sheath apparatus is provided. The endovascular sheath apparatus includes an inner tube that includes a lumen for introducing medical fluids or devices and an outer surface. The apparatus further includes an outer tube with an interior surface. The outer and inner surfaces define a cavity therebetween. The apparatus still further includes a stiffening component that is at least partially received in at least part of the cavity An actuating mechanism cooperates with the stiffening component A method of providing intravascular delivery of a sheath includes the steps of providing an inner tube positioning a stiffening component around the inner tube and deploying an actuating mechanism that cooperates with the stiffening component a stiffness characteristic of which being adjustable extra-corporeally by movement of the actuating mechanism in combination with the stiffening component.

System And Procedure For Placing A Medical Device Proximate An Ostial Lesion Using A Catheter Assembly

View page
US Patent:
20110071490, Mar 24, 2011
Filed:
Sep 18, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/562713
Inventors:
Elias Habib Kassab - Grosse Pointe Shores MI, US
Mark Edwin Zyzelewski - Kalamazoo MI, US
Assignee:
KASSAB INTERVENTIONAL DEVICES, LLC ("KIDS") - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
A61M 31/00
A61M 25/00
A61M 39/10
US Classification:
604500, 604264, 604533
Abstract:
A catheter system and method for placing a medical device proximate an ostial lesion. The catheter system has a guide catheter with a proximal end and a distal end . A sheath with an internal lumen surrounds the guide catheter . The sheath has a near end and a far end . A cavity is defined between the outside of the guide catheter and the inside of the sheath . One or more longtitudinal connecting components extend axially within the cavity with an actuating mechanism . An ostial locating member extends from the far end of the sheath so that the ostial locating member lies outside the guide catheter . The ostial locating member has at least two flexible, radially extending struts that terminate with radio-opaque feet that lie in an ostial plane when they are advanced in a distal direction from outside the distal end of the guide catheter and against the interior wall of the aorta . The ostial locating member permits placement of the radio-opaque feet proximate to or in the ostial plane when the ostial locating member is advanced distally after the expandable distal legs have been expanded radially outward beyond the distal end of the guiding catheter

Endovascular Catheter And Method With Hydraulic Bladder System

View page
US Patent:
20110251595, Oct 13, 2011
Filed:
Apr 7, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/755864
Inventors:
Elias Habib Kassab - Grosse Pointe Shores MI, US
Mark Edwin Zyzelewski - Kalamazoo MI, US
Assignee:
KASSAB KUGHN ENDOVASCULAR DEVICES LLC - Farmington MI
International Classification:
A61M 25/00
US Classification:
604528
Abstract:
A endovascular sheath system and method are provided that has an inner tube which includes an outer surface and an uninterrupted inner lumen for introducing medical fluids or devices. A stiffening assembly including a plurality of inflatable bladders is disposed outside the inner tube that extend axially in relation to the inner tube along at least a portion of its length. At least some of the bladders are inflated or deflated through a channel that lies in an annular wall disposed between the outer and inner wall surfaces of the tube and when a bladder is pressurized by hydraulic pressure. When pressure is relieved, at least partial relaxation and therefore a softening of the apparatus results. An actuating mechanism cooperates with a proximal end of the stiffening assembly for controlling fluid pressure that is communicated to the plurality of bladders

Catheter System With Balloon-Mounted Plaque-Modifying Elements

View page
US Patent:
20130150874, Jun 13, 2013
Filed:
Dec 12, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/323156
Inventors:
Elias H. Kassab - Grosse Pointe Shores MI, US
Assignee:
KASSAB KUGHN ENDOVASCULAR DEVICES LLC - Farmington MI
International Classification:
A61B 17/22
US Classification:
606159
Abstract:
A plaque-modifying balloon and method for use in an endovascular procedure includes an elongated balloon that defines a longitudinal axis and is inflatable from a first deflated configuration to a second radially expanded configuration. One or more plaque-modifying elements are mounted on the outside of the inflatable balloon. Optionally, a compressible sheath made of a relatively low durometer, flexible material is mounted on the balloon to cover the elements during transit of the plaque-modifying balloon to and from the treatment site.
