Abstract:
A method and a system for providing automated information to a subscriber of a mobile telecommunications system in which a request for information is received on a mobile telecommunications system from a mobile communications device, such as a cellular telephone or a personal communications device. A type of mobile communication device from which the request for information is received is determined by accessing a mobile communications device profile based on an ESN and an MIN associated with the mobile communications device. The requested information is then sent to the mobile communications device. The requested information is context specific to the type of mobile communications device from which the request for information is received.

Abstract:
A subscriber of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) receiving an EAS alert message can obtain additional information based upon the location of the subscriber. The additional information can include information pertaining to available shelter, medical facilities, the location of emergency supplies, a plume map, evacuation routes, or the like. In an example embodiment, the Global Positioning System is utilized to determine the location of the subscriber. The location information along with EAS alert information is used to query a database to obtain the additional information.

Abstract:
An indication of an emergency alert message is provided to a user, potentially having a disability, via a networked enabled portable device. The emergency alert message is provided via sign language video images indicative of the emergency alert. A notification makes the user aware when broadcast emergency alerts are issued. In various embodiments, the portable device is enabled to receive information about an emergency alert broadcast of which the potentially disabled user should be aware, e. g. , from the EAS, and to notify the user of the emergency alert. The user can be automatically taken to the emergency alert information by having the portable device automatically tune to the emergency broadcast information, the user can optionally retrieve the emergency information by tuning to the emergency broadcast channel, and/or the user can otherwise be presented with a reference to the emergency data, such as a link to the information.

Abstract:
SMS based alert messages are routed to subscribers via a Mobile Switching Center (MSC) such that SMS alert messages can be provided to specific cell sites. Also, SMS alert message can be provided to all subscribers registered in a specific cell site, including roamers. When an MSC receives one alert message, it routes that one message to all subscribers known to the MSC. In an example embodiment, an emergency alert message along with an indication of the alert area is received by an emergency alert server. MSCs capable of facilitating cellular coverage for the alert area are determined. Cell ID (cell sites) associated with the MSC are determined, and the alert message is routed to subscribers currently registered in the cell ID.

SMS alert messages are provided to the current geographic location of a registered SMS subscriber. When an SMS subscriber's mobile device is registered, the subscriber's profile is analyzed to determine if the subscriber wants to receive alert messages via SMS. Various options for determining the delivery mechanism to be used for the distribution of emergency alerts, such as Emergency Alert System (EAS) messages, include determining if broadcast technologies are supported. If broadcast technology is supported, alerts are provided in accordance therewith. If broadcast technology is not supported, alert messages are provided, via the Short Message Service (SMS), to geographic locations in which subscribers are located. In accordance with another option, if broadcast technology is not supported, SMS based alert messages are routed to subscribers via a Mobile Switching Center (MSC).
