Mixing Two Immiscible Fluids Of Differing Density

View page
US Patent:
40679020, Jan 10, 1978
Filed:
May 5, 1974
Appl. No.:
5/574379
Inventors:
Darrell L. Werges - Park Forest IL
Assignee:
Nalco Chemical Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
C07C10308
US Classification:
260561N
Abstract:
Apparatus and method for first mixing continuously at a prechosen flow rate a less dense fluid with a more dense fluid, the fluids being at least partially immiscible, so as to achieve a constant weight ratio of one fluid to the other per prechosen unit of mixed fluid volume transversely across the path of such mixed fluid followed by charging the resulting mixed fluid simultaneously to a multiplicity of tubes in a tubular reactor under conditions of substantially plug flow. At least one of the fluid is a liquid at all times.

Hydrophobically Associating Dispersants Used In Forming Polymer Dispersions

US Patent:
55978584, Jan 28, 1997
Filed:
Mar 22, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/408764
Inventors:
Manian Ramesh - Lisle IL
Jeffrey R. Cramm - Winfield IL
Darrell L. Werges - Naperville IL
Christopher P. Howland - Aurora IL
Assignee:
Nalco Chemical Company - Naperville IL
International Classification:
C08L 1302
US Classification:
524458
Abstract:
An improved process for the preparing a dispersions of water soluble cationic polymers in an aqueous salt solution is disclosed. The improvement comprises using as a polymeric dispersion stabilizer a water soluble hydrophobically associating copolymer of diallyldimethylammonium chloride and a monomer selected from the group consisting of: ##STR1## and alkyl esters of acrylic acid, where R. sub. 1 is either hydrogen or CH. sub. 3 ; R. sub. 2 and R. sub. 3 are each an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms; A. sub. 1 is either an oxygen atom or NH; B. sub. 1 is either an alkylene group having 2 to 4 carbon atoms or a hydroxypropylene group, Q is benzyl, or C. sub. 6 -C. sub. 20 alkyl, and X. sub. 1. sup. - is an anionic counterion.
