Image Format Conversion With Transparency Color Adjustment

View page
US Patent:
6211881, Apr 3, 2001
Filed:
Aug 12, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/133514
Inventors:
Jeffrey R. Gabler - Tomball TX
Darrell J. Starnes - Tomball TX
Assignee:
Compaq Computer Corporation - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06T 1500
US Classification:
345418
Abstract:
Improved image format conversion techniques that provide improved conversion from an image format supporting transparency to an image format not supporting transparency. The techniques replace a transparency color in an original image format prior to format conversion. Consequently, the format conversion uses the replacement transparency color instead of the original transparency color, and thus is able to provide improved image conversion when converting from an image format supporting transparency to an image format not supporting transparency.

Hardware Graphics Accelerator System And Method Therefor

View page
US Patent:
5678037, Oct 14, 1997
Filed:
Sep 16, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/307959
Inventors:
Kevin J. Osugi - Gilbert AZ
Darrell J. Starnes - Tomball TX
Assignee:
VLSI Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
G06F 1300
US Classification:
395525
Abstract:
A hardware graphics accelerator (HGA) system which has a source memory element which is loaded to initiate HGA operations operates in two modes: (1) a FIFO mode for normal HGA operations and (2) a recirculate mode for high speed pattern transfers and pattern expands by the HGA. The use of the second mode simplifies the structure and increases the operating speed of the HGA and its associated CPU by eliminating the use of the dedicated pattern registers and pattern control multiplexers of prior art HGA systems.

Method And System Condensing Animated Images

View page
US Patent:
6300959, Oct 9, 2001
Filed:
Aug 12, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/132952
Inventors:
Jeffrey R. Gabler - Tomball TX
Darrell J. Starnes - Tomball TX
Assignee:
Compaq Computer Corporation - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06T 1700
US Classification:
345473
Abstract:
Improved techniques for condensing or reducing animated image data streams are disclosed. The improved techniques enable the transmission and storage of animated images in a rapid and efficient manner. Animated images are normally stored as image files that include a series of images which produce an animation effect when sequentially displayed. For example, animated image files are often used by Internet sites to provide animation to their web pages. In the case of a proxy server for a network (e. g. , the Internet) that caches images, the condensing or reducing of the animated image files is particularly helpful because it not only to reduces image storage space but also accelerates the delivery of these animated images to end users. The improved techniques are particularly well suited for use in reducing or condensing animated GIF images.

Method And Apparatus For Providing A Guaranteed Minimum Level Of Performance For Content Delivery Over A Network

View page
US Patent:
6144996, Nov 7, 2000
Filed:
Aug 12, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/133482
Inventors:
Darrell J. Starnes - Tomball TX
Amgad M. Elwahab - Houston TX
Jeffrey R. Gabler - Tomball TX
Steven C. Giap - Houston TX
Rupali M. Kothari - Houston TX
Svilen B. Pronev - Cypress TX
Christopher H. Stewart - Tomball TX
Assignee:
Compaq Computer Corporation - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06F 1300
US Classification:
709217
Abstract:
A proxy system that offers connection services and acceleration services is disclosed. The acceleration services provide for accelerated delivery of content to requestors (e. g. , clients) while guaranteeing a minimum level of service (for content delivery) to the requestors. The acceleration services are facilitated by improved techniques for rapid and efficient delivery of objects from a network (e. g. , the Internet) to users. The improved techniques can be utilized in a variety of apparatuses, including a proxy having an acceleration apparatus (e. g. , an acceleration server). The acceleration apparatus manages and monitors its utilization of processing resources so that performance of the proxy system can during worst case conditions guarantee a minimum level of service (for content delivery) to the requestors. The proxy system is also well suited for being scaled to provide additional processing resources.
