Combi-Sensor For Measuring Multiple Measurands In A Common Package

View page
US Patent:
7243541, Jul 17, 2007
Filed:
Mar 30, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/393412
Inventors:
Paul P. Bey - Freeport IL, US
Anthony M. Dmytriw - Freeport IL, US
Christopher M. Blumhoff - Dixon IL, US
Craig S. Becke - Freeport IL, US
Jamie W. Speldrich - Freeport IL, US
Richard W. Gehman - Freeport IL, US
Assignee:
Honeywell International Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
G01D 11/24
US Classification:
73431
Abstract:
A modular sensor system includes a plurality of varying types of sensors that provide multiple sensing measurands for sensing operations. A housing is generally associated with the varying types of sensors, such that the housing introduces media to be sensed by the sensors. An electrical interface can also be connected to the sensors, wherein the electrical interface permits a logical physical connection to be made to a selected sensor in order to maximize sensing sensitivity and provide a sensing repeatability and accurate sensor compensation thereof for the sensing operations.

Packaging Multiple Measurands Into A Combinational Sensor System Using Elastomeric Seals

View page
US Patent:
7832269, Nov 16, 2010
Filed:
Jun 22, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/821421
Inventors:
Craig S. Becke - London OH, US
Jamie W. Speldrich - Freeport IL, US
Christopher M. Blumhoff - Dixon IL, US
Assignee:
Honeywell International Inc. - Morristown NJ
International Classification:
G01F 15/00
G01K 1/08
G01N 19/10
US Classification:
73431, 73 2902, 73 2905
Abstract:
A combinational sensor system for measuring multiple measurands includes a flow transducer, a pressure transducer and a humidity transducer. The pressure and humidity transducers are provided with independent access to sensed media and are ratiometric to a supply voltage, whereas the flow sensor is sensitive to openings to the flow path. The combinational sensor system utilizes elastomeric seals that include patterned electrically conductive and non-conductive seals. An ASIC is generally associated with the combinational sensor, and is located on a patterned electrically conductive substrate lead frame or for signal conditioning in order to detect any of the sensed measurands. The transducers can be arranged in a manner that distributes the transducers to optimize the accuracy and response time of the combinational sensor system.

System For Sensing The Motion Or Pressure Of A Fluid

View page
US Patent:
20020078744, Jun 27, 2002
Filed:
Dec 21, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/746282
Inventors:
Richard Gehman - Freeport IL, US
Christopher Blumhoff - Sterling IL, US
Jamie Speldrich - Freeport IL, US
International Classification:
G01F001/68
US Classification:
073/204110
Abstract:
A system for sensing or measuring the motion of a fluid such as air. The system typically has a two-part plastic body containing an internal flow passage. The parts of the body may snap together or attach with an adhesive. A transducer or an electronic sensor is typically located within the flow passage, which may measure mass flow rate and may have two resistive thermal devices (RTDs) located on either side of a heat source. The body may have two elongated port tubes configured to attach to tubing. The port tubes may contain venturis, and may be substantially straight and substantially parallel, forming a U shape. A metal lead frame may be provided in electrical communication with the sensor. The lead frame may be integrally molded within the body, and may have a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than the body. The internal flow passage and the sensor may be substantially symmetrical and measure the flow rate of the fluid substantially equally in either flow direction. The system may be configured for surface mounting or for through-hole mounting, and may be a dual in-line type.

Thermal Mass Gas Flow Sensor And Method Of Forming Same

View page
US Patent:
20070209433, Sep 13, 2007
Filed:
Mar 10, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/373947
Inventors:
Richard Gehman - Freeport IL, US
Anthony Dmytriw - Freeport IL, US
Christopher Blumhoff - Dixon IL, US
Stephen Shiffer - Xenia OH, US
International Classification:
G01F 1/68
US Classification:
073204260
Abstract:
A thermal gas flow sensor and method of forming such a sensor. The sensor has a substrate and a heater disposed on the substrate. At least one pair of thermal sensing elements is disposed on the substrate either side of the heater. A protective layer is disposed on at least the heater and/or the thermal sensing elements. The protective layer comprises a high temperature resistant polymer based layer which is preferably a fluoropolymer based layer. The protective layer can also cover interconnects and electrical connections also formed on the substrate so as to completely seal the sensor. A passivation layer, such as silicon nitride, can be disposed on the sensing and/or heating elements and optionally the interconnects and is arranged to interpose the protective layer and the substrate.
