Data Structure Boundary Synchronization Between A Transmitter And Receiver

View page
US Patent:
8270436, Sep 18, 2012
Filed:
Sep 18, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/856898
Inventors:
Wensheng Huang - Cary NC, US
Bogdan Sutkowski - Apex NC, US
Assignee:
Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ) - Stockholm
International Classification:
H04J 3/16
H04J 3/22
US Classification:
370473
Abstract:
Synchronization between a transmitter and a receiver with respect to the boundary of higher-layer logical data structures is improved by considering both the statistical likelihood of the value of a transmitted boundary indicator and the quality of the channel during the transmission. A boundary indicator received under poor channel quality, that is decoded to a statistically unlikely value, is suspect and one or more retransmission is requested. A reliable value of the boundary indicator is a retransmitted boundary indicator received during good channel conditions; the value of two boundary indicators received successively, both under poor channel conditions, that decode to the same value; or a majority vote of three successive boundary indicators, the first two received under poor channel conditions. The accuracy of the received boundary indicator is increased, at a cost of one, or at most, two, retransmissions.

US Patent:
8374133, Feb 12, 2013
Filed:
Jul 29, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/511775
Inventors:
John Diachina - Garner NC, US
Bogdan Sutkowski - Apex NC, US
Paul Schliwa-Bertling - Ljungsbro, SE
Marten Sundberg - Stockholm, SE
Assignee:
Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (PUBL) - Stockholm
International Classification:
H04W 4/00
US Classification:
370329, 370341, 3703953, 3703954, 370437, 455450, 455509
Abstract:
A mobile station (MS) operating within a radio network includes a processing unit having an active mode and an inactive mode. The mobile station includes a transmitter in communication with the processing unit. The mobile station includes a memory in communication with the processing unit for storing uplink payload. The mobile station includes a radio interface in communication with the radio network and the transmitter; when there is uplink payload to transmit when the processing unit is in the inactive mode, the transmitter transmitting an activity indication to a base station over the radio interface, the processing unit changing to active mode, and the transmitter transmitting the uplink payload to the base station over the radio interface. A method for a mobile station operating within a radio network. A method for a base station operating within a radio network.

Fast Indication Of Uplink Voice Activity

US Patent:
20080176576, Jul 24, 2008
Filed:
Jan 22, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/017435
Inventors:
John Walter Diachina - Garner NC, US
Paul Schliwa-Bertling - Ljungsbro, SE
Bogdan Sutkowski - Apex NC, US
International Classification:
H04Q 7/20
US Classification:
455450
Abstract:
A mobile station operating in extended uplink TBF mode detects renewed data activity. Upon receiving an allocation of an uplink transmission opportunity, the mobile station determines whether a data block corresponding to the renewed data activity is ready for transmission. If the data block is not ready for transmission, a dummy block, comprising an indication that one or more uplink data packets are pending, is sent to the base station at the allocated transmission opportunity. The base station responds by resuming continuous mode scheduling of the uplink for the mobile station.

Near Companion Mode

US Patent:
20100040008, Feb 18, 2010
Filed:
Aug 12, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/540118
Inventors:
John Diachina - Garner NC, US
Paul Schliwa-Bertling - Ljungsbro, SE
Bogdan Sutkowski - Apex NC, US
International Classification:
H04W 72/12
US Classification:
370329
Abstract:
Two User Equipment (UE) operate in a Near Companion Mode (NCM), in which a monitoring UE (MUE) monitors an uplink transmission opportunity granted to its companion UE (CUE) on a shared uplink channel. If the CUE does not begin transmitting within a predetermined portion of its transmission opportunity, the MUE may utilize the transmission opportunity to transmit an uplink data packet. In one embodiment, where the CUE does not have data to transmit, it may transmit a predetermined pattern at the beginning of its transmission opportunity, to indicate to the MUE that the transmission opportunity is available. The MUE may transmit an NCM radio block using the entire symbol space associated with the last three of four bursts allocated to the CUE, or using a newly defined NCM format comprising four abbreviated bursts, using only a portion of the symbol space associated with the four bursts corresponding to the transmission opportunity allocated to the CUE.
