Waste Container With Displaceable Panel Closure

View page
US Patent:
20020088812, Jul 11, 2002
Filed:
Feb 20, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/079287
Inventors:
Anthony Petzitillo - Sicklerville NJ, US
Todd Fowler - Blackwood NJ, US
International Classification:
B65F001/16
US Classification:
220/812000, 220/832000, 220/833000, 220/908000, 220/203010
Abstract:
A container with side and end walls, a top and a bottom, has a closure with a panel movable outwardly perpendicular to a plane of the closure, from a closed and substantially sealed position to a closed and substantially unsealed position to disengage the seal before undertaking a more gross opening movement in which the panel is moved clear of the opening. In one embodiment, a container is provided with a rear or end wall that in its gross movement hinges open and closed to clear or close an opening between container side walls. At least two hinges are mounted between the movable rear wall and a support plate on a sidewall adjacent to the movable rear wall. The support plate is constrained to move perpendicular to the plane of the door opening, shifting the rear wall between a closed and substantially sealed position and a closed and substantially unsealed position. In this manner the seal is subjected only to compression and decompression, with the movable rear wall or top lid in each case being free move open or closed without interference with the seals. A container door stop assembly and pressure release assembly are also provided.

Sealing Container Door With Stages Of Closure

View page
US Patent:
20040056029, Mar 25, 2004
Filed:
Sep 22, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/667705
Inventors:
Anthony Petzitillo - Winslow NJ, US
International Classification:
B62D051/04
US Classification:
220/001500
Abstract:
A container has a hinging panel compressing a gasket against a door frame, preferably as an intermodal waste container. A spring biased catch is engaged by forcing the door panel beyond a certain point approaching its sealed position, for example by slamming the door. A lever-operated cam closure can then be engaged to fully compress the seal as the door panel is pulled to its sealed position. A clamping structure along a bottom edge of the door panel is adjustable to obtain an intermediate span of adjustment that is variable, along the bottom edge. A sill rod has fingers to grasp tabs on the bottom edge of the door. The pressure exerted at each tab is variable using a bolt adjustment. The individual adjustment can correct for wear or generally correct the tendency of the door panel to become bowed outwardly, thus reducing the incidence of leaks.

Lid Locking Mechanism For A Spreader Twistlock

View page
US Patent:
20050127694, Jun 16, 2005
Filed:
Dec 14, 2004
Appl. No.:
11/011846
Inventors:
Anthony Petzitillo - Winslow NJ, US
Todd Fowler - Sewell NJ, US
International Classification:
B66C001/42
US Classification:
294081530
Abstract:
A lid locking device enables engagement of a container lid for handling, particularly for an intermodal container, and also enables locking and unlocking of the lid to the container. The lid has fittings disposed at each of its four corners, with recesses for rotatable twistlocks carried on a lifting spreader. The lid and the intermodal container have corresponding twistlock fittings, preferably operated in opposite directions, configured to engage so that the container twistlock can be locked and unlocked using an actuator attached to the spreader twistlock, which likewise can be locked an unlocked. The lid is initially engaged to the spreader using the spreader twistlocks, and the spreader is used to move the lid into position on top of the container. As the lid is placed on the container, the container twistlocks insert into the recesses in the lid fittings. The actuator is rotated, concurrently locking the lid to the container and unlocking the lid from the spreader.

Intermodal Transfer Trailer

View page
US Patent:
63091534, Oct 30, 2001
Filed:
Apr 3, 2000
Appl. No.:
9/541330
Inventors:
Anthony D. Petzitillo - Sicklerville NJ
Kenneth E. Smith - Erial NJ
Assignee:
Accurate Industries, Inc. - Erial NJ
International Classification:
B60P 713
US Classification:
410 73
Abstract:
A vehicle for temporary support of intermodal cargo containers, especially a trailer for a tractor/trailer rig, has deployable locating pins placed centrally along the length of a chassis, for locating containers placed end-to-end. The locating pins center containers of different lengths relative to the chassis, which is long enough to accommodate the longest standard length of container or two short containers. The locating pins are resiliently mounted such that a long container or misplaced containers that are set down on the pins, cause the pins to be depressed into the chassis. Stop pins define an endpoint for an end of a container, and two resiliently mounted engagement pins on each side, are positioned for engaging the corner fittings of intermodal containers when abutted against the locating pins. A movable section with a hingeable wing structure carrying resiliently mounted engagement pins can be provided on lateral sides of the trailer, lockable when deployed using a manual locking means bearing between the movable section and the chassis, and supporting resiliently retractable engagement pins for coupling with the corner fittings of two or more containers placed end to end.
