Ligand-Mediated Controlled Drug Delivery

View page
US Patent:
20060153919, Jul 13, 2006
Filed:
Jan 12, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/034437
Inventors:
Andrew Metters - Clemson SC, US
Srinivas Chollangi - Norman OK, US
Chien Lin - Clemson SC, US
International Classification:
A61K 9/14
A61K 9/50
US Classification:
424486000, 424490000
Abstract:
Disclosed are systems and methods that can be utilized to define and control the delivery rate of a biological agent from a carrier matrix such as a biocompatible hydrogel. The carrier matrices of the present invention can include ligands incorporated within the matrix at a predetermined concentration level (C). In addition, the ligands within the matrix can display a particular, predetermined affinity for the biologically active agents to be delivered by the system. In particular, the affinity between the ligand and the biologically active agent can have a known predetermined dissociation constant (K). When utilizing the system, the agent can be incorporated within the matrix due to association of the agent with the ligand. In addition, the agent can be protected from side reactions due to the association of the agent with the ligand. Through particular selection of the parameters Cand K, the rate of release of the biologically active agent from the matrix can be controlled. The disclosed methods and systems can be advantageously used in both in vivo clinical settings and ex vivo settings, such as tissue engineering applications.

Method And Compositions For Biofouling Deterrence

Andrew Metters - Clemson SC, US
Nihar M. Shah - Woodland CA, US
International Classification:
C09D 5/16
C08F 20/40
A01P 9/00
US Classification:
424 7809, 5253299
Abstract:
A method of deterring biofouling of a surface comprising attaching an adduct having formula (I) or noradrenalin to the surface. Formula (I) being defined as compounds that have the formula A-L-R wherein A is i) a C6 or C10 substituted aryl ring, or ii) a C1-C9 substituted or unsubstituted heteroaryl ring: L is a linking group, and R is a primary amino moiety comprising unit.

Abstract:
This invention relates to luminescent markers for in vitro diagnostic applications, and kits using those markers. In some embodiments, those markers comprise luminescent carbon nanoparticles. Some embodiments provide a method for investigating an analyte comprising correlating a marker to the analyte and observing the luminescence from the marker, wherein the marker comprises a nanoparticle having a carbon core. In vitro kits, including those employing a marker comprising a nanoparticle having a carbon core, are also provided.

Glucose Management And Dialysis Method And Apparatus

View page
US Patent:
20140148749, May 29, 2014
Filed:
Nov 26, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/685320
Inventors:
- Franklin Lakes NJ, US
Andrew METTERS - Westford MA, US
Assignee:
BECTON, DICKINSON AND COMPANY - Franklin Lakes NJ
International Classification:
A61M 1/14
US Classification:
604 501
Abstract:
A process and apparatus are provided for managing and adjusting glucose levels in the blood of a patient during dialysis. The apparatus is a dialysis apparatus to treat patients with renal disease which includes a glucose scavenger to remove excess glucose from the blood before returning the blood to the patient and/or a device to increase blood glucose levels in the blood when the glucose level is below a threshold level. The glucose scavenger can include a glucose binding protein, boronic acid derivative, boronic ester derivative or mixture thereof bonded to the surface of a support such as a fiber bundle in a cartridge or the inner surface of tubing used in the apparatus.
