Abstract:
Improved inkjet ink compositions have a sufficient amount of an acetylenic alcohol incorporated therein to reduce the corrosiveness of the ink without adversely affecting the printing characteristics of the ink composition. The inkjet ink compositions of the invention include a carrier, a colorant that is soluble or dispersable in said carrier, and a sufficient quantity of at least one acetylenic alcohol to reduce the corrosiveness of said ink composition to metal placed in contact with said ink composition. The inkjet ink compositions may also include at least one acetylenic alcohol that contains a terminal acetylene and an -hydroxy group. A method for reducing corrosiveness of an inkjet ink composition includes adding to said inkjet ink composition a sufficient quantity of at least one acetylenic alcohol to reduce the corrosiveness of said ink composition to metal placed in contact with said ink composition.

US Patent:
6808556, Oct 26, 2004
Filed:
Oct 29, 2001
Appl. No.:
10/000043
Inventors:
Amiya K. Chatterjee - San Diego CA
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. - Houston TX
International Classification:
C09D 1102
US Classification:
106 3158, 106 3186
Abstract:
The inks provide excellent ink-jet prints having excellent imaging onto glossy inkjet media with increased dot size leading to improved dot visibility and banding robustness of the image. The aqueous inks each comprise from about 0. 1 to about 20 wt % of at least one colorant (CMYK) with the black ink comprising from about 0. 5 to about 20 wt % of at least one colorant; from about 7 to about 20 wt % of at least one 1,2-diol, from about 0. 5% to about 2 wt % of a mono- or di-hydric alcohol; 0 to about 1. 5 wt % of at least one component independently selected from the group consisting of buffers, biocides, and metal chelators; and the balance water. The formulations are substantially free of surfactants and other solvents.
