Method To Reduce Dislocation Density In Silicon Using Stress

View page
US Patent:
8389999, Mar 5, 2013
Filed:
Sep 28, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/892370
Inventors:
Anthony Buonassisi - Cambridge MA, US
Mariana Bertoni - Somerville MA, US
Ali Argon - Belmont MA, US
Sergio Castellanos - Sonora, MX
Alexandria Fecych - Somerville MA, US
Douglas Powell - Highland Heights OH, US
Michelle Vogl - Dekalb IL, US
Assignee:
Massachusetts Institute of Technology - Cambridge MA
International Classification:
H01L 29/04
US Classification:
257 75, 257 52, 257 59, 257 72, 438 57, 438 58, 438 97
Abstract:
A crystalline material structure with reduced dislocation density and method of producing same is provided. The crystalline material structure is annealed at temperatures above the brittle-to-ductile transition temperature of the crystalline material structure. One or more stress elements are formed on the crystalline material structure so as to annihilate dislocations or to move them into less harmful locations.

US Patent:
52235742, Jun 29, 1993
Filed:
Oct 11, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/774930
Inventors:
Osman S. Gebizlioglu - Hazlet NJ
Robert E. Cohen - Jamaica Plain MA
Ali S. Argon - Belmont MA
Haskell W. Beckham - Cambridge MA
Jian Qin - Medford MA
Assignee:
Massachusetts Institute of Technology - Cambridge MA
International Classification:
C08L 900
C08L 2504
C08L 5104
C08L 5502
US Classification:
525 86
Abstract:
Polymer blends are provided comprising a glassy thermoplastic polymer having a glass transition temperature above ambient conditions, e. g. , normal room temperature and between 0. 1 and 4. 0 weight percent of a rubbery polymer having a glass transition temperature below ambient temperature conditions, e. g. , normal room temperature based on the weight of the blend. The blends can be produced by solution casting or by coagulation from solution followed by flocculation.

Determining Mechanical Behavior Of Solid Materials Using Miniature Specimens

View page
US Patent:
45677743, Feb 4, 1986
Filed:
Apr 28, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/489597
Inventors:
Michael P. Manahan - Columbus OH
Ali S. Argon - Belmont MA
Otto K. Harling - Hingham MA
Assignee:
Battelle Development Corporation - Columbus OH
International Classification:
G01N 308
US Classification:
73826
Abstract:
A Miniaturized Bend Test (MBT) capable of extracting and determining mechanical behavior information from specimens only so large as to have at least a volume or smallest dimension sufficient to satisfy continuum behavior in all directions. The mechanical behavior of the material is determined from the measurements taken during the bending of the specimen and is processed according to the principles of linear or nonlinear material mechanics or both. In a preferred embodiment the determination is carried out by a code which is constructed according to the finite element method, and the specimen used for the determinations is a miniature disk simply supported for central loading at the axis on the center of the disk.
