Appl. No.:
10/669896
Inventors:
Adam E. Meggitt - Charlotte NC, US
Guy H. Berthiaume - Charlotte NC, US
Aldo Mario Caballero - Charlotte NC, US
Brian V. Conti - Matthews NC, US
Jeffrey Dean Harper - Charlotte NC, US
James T. Sauerwein - Charlotte NC, US
Daniel D. Yeakley - Monroe NC, US
Assignee:
Hand Held Products, Inc. - Skaneateles Falls NY
International Classification:
G06F 12/14
US Classification:
713164
Abstract:
A portable device is equipped with a broadcasting operating mode in which the broadcasting portable device executes a verbatim memory data image copying to another device or plurality of devices equipped with receiving modes of operation. Single-threaded OS free commands may be utilized to control both the broadcasting and receiving devices during a data copy session. In another aspect, a reprogramming system includes a symbol generator and a reconfigurable device. The symbol generator processes user input data to encode a reprogramming symbol, and the reconfigurable device reads the reprogramming symbol.

Assignee:
Hand Held Products, Inc. - Skaneateles Falls NY
International Classification:
G06K 19/06
US Classification:
235494, 23546201, 341 50
Abstract:
A symbol generator can be configured to receive various user input data, and can encode one or more programming bar codes based on the input data. Such input data can include designators for files. The input data can also include commands to be executed by a device reading the one or more programming bar codes.

Power Management Apparatus And Methods For Portable Data Terminals

View page
US Patent:
7577516, Aug 18, 2009
Filed:
May 9, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/382394
Inventors:
Brian R. Dobeck - Matthews NC, US
Adam E. Meggitt - Charlotte NC, US
Jim T. Sauerwein - Charlotte NC, US
Daniel Duane Yeakley - Monroe NC, US
Assignee:
Hand Held Products, Inc. - Skaneateles Falls NY
International Classification:
G01C 21/00
US Classification:
701200, 701213, 34235709
Abstract:
In accordance with at least one embodiment, a portable data terminal generally comprising a battery: a central controller, a GPS system, and an auxiliary processor. The central controller that has a sleep state wherein at least some of the functionality of the central controller is limited to conserve battery power. The auxiliary processor may be selected based, at least in part, on power draw. In particular, it is desirable for the auxiliary processor to use less power than the central controller when the central controller is fully activated. The auxiliary processor monitors the output of the GPS system and wakes the central controller from a sleep state based on the output of the GPS system.

Data Collection Device And Network Having Radio Signal Responsive Mode Switching

View page
US Patent:
7712670, May 11, 2010
Filed:
Mar 6, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/370189
Inventors:
William H. Havens - Syracuse NY, US
Sven M. A. Powilleit - Charlotte NC, US
Brian Roman Dobeck - Monroe NC, US
Adam Edward Meggitt - Charlotte NC, US
International Classification:
G06K 7/10
US Classification:
23547202, 235383, 235385
Abstract:
A data collection device is configured so that the device receives and processes various radio signals and automatically changes an operating mode of the data collection device in response to the processing of the radio signals or in response to the presence or absence of radio signals without manually inputting any commands with use of a user interface. By configuring the data collection device to automatically change an operating mode in response to sensed radio signals, operating modes are presented to an operator that may be tailored to the preferences of the present operator and/or tailored to the particular requirements of the device at present location of the device. With highly featurized operating modes being automatically and selectively presented to operators under specific circumstances, an operator is relieved of a variety of burdensome and time consuming exercises that are typically associated with learning how to access particular functions of a highly featurized electronic device.
